I guess the numbers were in Thai script ??

First number ( house number ) in front of moobahn ( which means village )

Next single number after Soi Chaimongkon. ( means several sois have same name )

Last 5 digit number after Jangwat Trat ( indicates post code )

the address in thai, instead of english?

Yes. It will most likely arrive faster if it is in Thai. Many postal carriers outside Bangkok (like Trat) read very little English.

That's why you write THAILAND in English below the Thai address. That's all the US postal service needs to understand. I have done this from the US many times and it works well.

Best to put the full English address as well as Thai to be sure, be careful sending anthing valuable too. There is a very good chance of it not arriving, best to use EMS.

I agree about using EMS for crucial letters, but I don't really think there is any need for adding the address in English. Once it's in Thailand the Thai will be better, and US mail should hopefully be able to send the package to Thailand.
