Hi All.

When are the responsible bodies going to start stripping the titles from the Shinawatres.Khunying Potjamon. Police Colonel Thaksin.etc.etc.

The quicker they are known by their prison numbers the better,

phupaman

Just five days until the title Police Lieutenant-Colonel Thaksin is tossed in the bin. November 20 is the 30 day mark after his conviction when the appeal period lapses.

As a high-profile and concerned citizen, I'm sure she did her best to try and convince her older brother to do the right thing and turn himself into authorities to face his adjudicated prison time and stop being a convicted fugitive from justice. I'm also sure that upon her return, she will share all available information about his whereabouts and plans with the responsible authorities... because she is, afterall, the First Lady, and that would be the proper thing to do.

Perhaps she did indeed do just that. :o:D" A PPP source said the former prime minister chose Dubai because the UAE has no extradition treaty with Thailand."

The problem with that conjecture is she's not a PPP source... now if they had written " A Banned TRT source said the former prime minister chose Dubai because the UAE has no extradition treaty with Thailand.", then it would at least be narrowed down to her or Newin of those attending the Aiding And Abetting meeting.

This is a pretty amazing thread. I do love Thai Visa because it brings out the best in people. The haters remind me of the witch burnings in Salem, Massachusetts combined with modern conspiracy theorists. I smell the blood but I have to wonder where is all the hate going to be focused when Thaksin goes down? These people should look at the big picture and focus some of this energy on helping the Thai people in some way. One should realize that Thaksin is on the run and will eventually get his due. Do any of the haters realize that if Thaksin is brought back or surrenders to serve jail time that event will be more divisive, polarizing the common Thai, more than anything else possibly could?

If he's off to Dubai, he should have waited till here got there, converted to Islam and just said "I divorce thee" 3 times and saved himself the consulate fess in Hong Kong.

For someone whose supposed to be a financial genius, he doesn't think things through very well does he? :o

Thaksin, Pojaman file for divorce

Convicted former Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and his wife Pojaman filed for divorce on Friday at the Thai Consulate General in Hong Kong.

But many still doubt the real reason behind the divorce.

Thai Foreign Ministry's Deputy Spokesman Thanee Thongpakdee declined to comment on the report, saying the couple appeared at the Thai Consulate General office in Hong Kong to do "personal" business.

However Manager online quoted a close aide of Thaksin as saying that the couple decided to divorce as Pojaman opposed her husband's decision to continue his fight to return to Thailand.

"Pojaman did not agree with Thaksin's decision to continue the fight against the allegations and the court's rulings. They decided to divorce shortly after the UK revoked their entry visas," the source said.

After the divorce, Thaksin would travel and stay in Dubai, United Arab Emirates which has no extradition treaty with Thailand. Thaksin will from now launch his political fight by all means.

It was reported that their children have already learnt of the divorce.

However many expressed doubts on the real reason for the divorce, whether it was politically motivated or not.

Thailand's former first couple divorces, newspaper says

Bangkok - Thailand's fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra has divorced his wife of 32 years, sealing the separation at the Thai consulate in Hong Kong, Thai news reports said Saturday. Thaksin, who faces a two-year jail term if he returns to Thailand, announced his divorce from his wife, Pojaman, to political allies who attended a dinner with him in Hong Kong Friday evening, the Bangkok Post said.

The Thai-language Thai Rath newspaper also carried reports of the separation.

It was unclear why the couple divorced although media reports speculated that it might be a legal move designed to improve the family's efforts to reclaim 76 billion baht (2.2 billion dollars) in frozen assets in Thai banks.

Much of the Shinawatra assets are in Pojaman's name. Thaksin, once ranked among Thailand's richest men, made his fortune off government telecommunications concessions.

He used his private fortune to enter politics, setting up the Thai Rak Thai Party, which won the 2001 election on a platform of populist policies and kept him in power until he was toppled in a bloodless military coup in September 2006.

The reported separation comes almost a month after Thailand's Supreme Court for Political Office Holders found Thaksin guilty of abuse of power for allowing his wife to bid on a prime plot of Bangkok land at a government auction in 2003 when he was prime minister.

Although the court found Thaksin guilty and sentenced him to two years in jail, Pojaman was cleared of corruption charges in the case because she was not a public office holder.

However, in August, Thailand's Criminal Court had found Pojaman guilty of tax evasion and sentenced her to three years in prison.

Thaksin and Pojaman fled to London on August 11 after receiving court permission to travel to Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics.

Their three children joined them in the British capital, where the family owns property.

But the Shinawatras' future was thrown into flux earlier this month when Britain revoked Thaksin's and Pojaman's tourist visas in response to the verdicts against them.

Maybe it's a dumb question, but what's he doing going in the Thai Consulate as a fugitive and convicted criminal. I though he was one of Thailand's "most wanted" and here he is swanning into a little bit of Thailand abroad to get a quickie divorce. Amazing!

A (Thai) consulate is, unlike an Embassy, not considered soil of that country, as far as I know.

LaoPo

Neither is an embassy. A common fallacy, bolstered by much repetition.

There was an informative article about this issue in the Thai English-language press about a year ago, when the British embassy was talking about leasing or selling part of their land for a commercial development. The "soil" was still subject to Thai law and City of Bangkok regulations.

So how about the buildings? Who really has jurisdiction within them? When it comes down to breaking the laws of the HOST country, the embassy staff is subject to the Host country's laws. Taksin was well aware of this legality, so no worry about waltzing into a Thai embassy OR consulate abroad, as long as the extradition laws are favorable to him.

One such example explained, below:

"And yes, any embassy in the USA follows the laws of the nation they are from.No. If someone commits murder in an embassy, the killer will be turned over to local police by the embassy's security, or the police will be invited in to collect him. He will be tried under the laws of the country in which the embassy is located, NOT the embassy's country's laws."

It's more common than one would think for Thai businessmen to be "officially" divorced from their wives.

I personally know five directors, all on the board of the same listed company who got divorced "on paper" before their IPO. :o

It is probably one way to safeguard family assets held in the wife's name.

THAKSINLAND... here we come.... :D

It's all a big fat lie!!.... We are happy love birds together!!! And my sister is going to be PM!!!!

PPP MP, Thaksin's spokesman play down divorce rumours

PPP's Roi Et MP Sakda Kongpetch on Saturday said deposed PM Thaksin has left for the UAE's Dubai and he will visit him soon. The UAE has no extradition treaty with Thailand. On the rumours claiming that the former PM divorced Potjaman, the MP said he does not believe them because the couple appeared happy together when they were in Hong Kong. According to Sakda, many Puea Thai Party MPs expected Mrs Yinglak Shinawatra [Thaksin's sister] to lead their Party and she would become the first Thai female Prime Minister. :D :D He believed the Shinawatra family is ready to administer the country, especially Thaksin’s brother Payap. :D:( Ousted PM Thaksin’s Personal Spokesman Pongthep Thepkanjana said he was not informed about Thaksin’s divorce, but believed it could be rumours. However, if Thaksin and his wife went separate ways, the legal cases of the ex-PM would not be affected, Pongthep noted. He said there were many news about Thaksin which were false, such as the Bahamas' plan to grant honourary citizenship to him. According to reports, Potjaman was not satisfied with her husband :o

good point! The Sgt at Arms should have slapped handcuffs on them and put them both in to custody. If one of us were a fugitive from Thai justice (is that an oxymoron?), we would expect the same if we walked in to a Thai embassy or consulate. I jest not.

Yes Consulates are soveriegn territory as are embassies.

The Sgt at Arms of course was told to drop the ball.

And dinner included the usual suspects.

The group included Yaowapa Wongsawat, his younger sister and wife of Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, her close aide Yongyuth Tiyapairat and former Thai Rak Thai executive Newin Chidchob. Veera Musikhapong and Chatuporn Promphan, hosts of the Kwam Jing Wan Nee (Truth Today), were also seen in Hong Kong yesterday.

Like we don't know he CONTROLS the government executive from a far.

A planning session for more PR attacks no doubt.

While no doubt it protects some assets,

I suspect her loss of face was enough to make her a royal PITA.

And the farther he gets from not pulling their butts from the flames,

the more she would flame him.

I wonder WHO'S name the 76 billion is in??

You can bet your b@lls it is being done for a specific reason as a means to an end (in Thaksin's eyes) and nothing to do whatsoever with any marriage breakdown. The poor excuse for a man is a devious and cunning b@st@rd who will use any means or person to suit his own vindictive agenda.

Thailand's ex-first couple to divorce

November 15, 2008 - 3:31PM

Thailand's fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra has divorced his wife of 32 years, sealing the separation at the Thai consulate in Hong Kong, news reports said Saturday.

Thaksin, who faces a two-year jail term if he returns to Thailand, announced his divorce from his wife, Pojaman, to political allies who attended a dinner with him in Hong Kong Friday, the Bangkok Post said.

The Thai-language Thai Rath newspaper also carried reports of the separation.

It was unclear why the couple divorced although media reports speculated that it might be a legal move designed to improve the family's efforts to reclaim 76 billion baht ($A3.3 billion) in frozen assets in Thai banks.

Much of the Shinawatra assets are in Pojaman's name. Thaksin, once ranked among Thailand's richest men, made his fortune off government telecommunications concessions.

It's not so much a hate campaign but rather a campaign to see that justice is done.

Thaksin's supporters for a long time protested his innocence. Almost all now seem to accept that he did commit crime, but now say for the sake of the country we should move on and concentrate efforts on rebuilding national unity for the good of all. How very convenient! For some it would seem that respecting rules and laws is a trifle matter that can be swept under the carpet when it suits.

Thaksin was quick to celebrate victory when he was cleared by the Thai courts in the assets concealment case. He must now accept and respect the court's ruling as he did then by turning himself over to authorities and serving his time. Until he does so, every law-abiding citizen should be in support of the pursual of justice. If it wasn't for such people, Thaksin would no doubt still have his snout in the trough.

Did any of you sweet people ever think that after divorce she could apply for another visa to visit her children?

I thought she was a convicted criminal?

She is and she got a longer sentence than he did,

and she skipped out on it first too.

He was convicted while out of the country, refusing to return,

she was in court and then fled, dishonorably, right after.

UK will take a dim view of that.

She was absolved of a crime in HIS case, because she was not the political office holder.

So no jurisdiction, but she was already a convicted criminal on the run at that point.

Hi All.

Just seen on tele Chalerm quoted as saying that Thaksin should be allowed to pursue his idea's for Thailand.

He as an ex interior minister should know that convicted criminals have No rights at all , they just have to conform to prison rules and regulations, and keep quite.

Potjaman: GUILTY!

There is an obvious PR attempt to scew / spin the image of Thaksin

in the foreign language world for his own ends.

Many here are making efforts to counteract that misleading disinformation flow,

to help prevent his having an easy base of operations and unwarranted international

support to wreak more havok on this lovely country.

Few actually HATE Thaksin.

But no doubt many are afraid of his potential vindictiveness if he ever returns to power.

As to a comment on flaming him, but not other TVF members.

Members can't flame mambers. But public figures are fair play,

by their very nature of becoming public figures.

The witch burnings in Salem have little or nothing to do with this.

The minister that was the central figure in the whole Salem thing, moved to my home town

and became school master there, and died twenty years later. Noted as overtly strict.

He never was taken seriously as a minister again. I've see Rev. Parris's grave there.

It was hysteria and nothing more. More people were killed as witches in UK than Salem.

No need to re-channel hate somewhere else.

You seem to think hate, or strong dislike, is just there as an integral part of a posters makeup,

and not coming from something to BE disliked. There is usually a reason to dislike something.

people don't just dislike because the MUST dislike something.

Thaksin has earned his dislike by his actions.

Actually putting him in jail is the proper legal thing to do.

If it causes unrest, well that is likely from his spin campaign,

not from his sentence being actuated. Rule of law,

can NOT be over-ridden just because a convict has created

popular support for his appearance of innocence.

'People like me so I can't go to jail...'

If you were coinvicted, you think that would work in your case?

Not on your tin-type.
