The Lao Tree Seed Project website has a good download explaining planting and early care in detail.

Spacing can range from 2 x 2m up to 4 x 4m, but in Thailand the norm is 3 x 3m.

4 x 4 would be better. Planted ours (approx. 120,000 sq. m.) at 2 x 2 m.... Growing real slow albeit, tight grained - girth / circumference on avg. is 50cm and was planted in 94', 95', and 96'. The trees are, indeed, golden teak variety. We used a little silicon (dessicant) when planting to keep some moisture during the evtreme dry seasons.

Hi hgma,

I think you will find lots of interesting information if you go to this web site <www.aciar.gov.au> and download: “Towards improving profitability of teak in integrated smallholder farming systems in northern Laos”. If you can't find it let me know and I will upload here or mail to you.

JB.
