Hi,

I have been looking around for a school in N. Ratchasima where a foreigner can learn the Thai language.

There are a few "private school's" were a foreigner can get a "steam course" in the Thai language.

But almost all of these "private school's" are pretty expensive and the course is nothing else than a copy of books which anybody can buy in a bookshop.

No way to continue and make progress after their course.

Real Thai classes like a Thai kid learns in school are not available to foreigners unless they want to travel every day to Bangkok or Pattaya.

The school where my daughter is learning, one of the best in N. Ratchasima, is willing to organize a Thai course for foreigners if there would be enough people willing to enroll in a professional course to learn the Thai language.

The teacher(s) would be all Thai with an acceptable knowledge of English.

The course will be at least 1 year at a ratio of 1 hour a day, but will be finally planned if there is enough demand.

For foreigners who are planning to get a the Thai residence, this is a one of a lifetime opportunity to get skilled in the Thai language. Writing, speaking and reading.

In order to get this project of the ground, I will need to present to the school the names of foreigners who are interested in following this course.

Therefore, I would like to ask the foreigners and ThaiVisa members who are willing to enroll in this project to write their name and post it in this thread or PM me personally.

Regards

Thanks for your answer, Blueeyes.

To clarify as there seems to be some confusion:

a) This project would be an opportunity for the foreigners to learn Thai in a PROFESSIONAL way at a school.

There is NO WAY to learn to speak, write and read Thai in 1 or 2 months.

This would be similar to the evening schools in Europe where residents and non-residents can get a "second chance" to learn a language or a job.

:o There will absolutely no "learning Thai" trough this forum from the school which is willing to organize this.

People who want to learn Thai trough this forum can do so in the existing subforum which is managed well enough in my opinion.

c) I'm not setting up a (new) school or a (new) place where fahrangs can learn Thai.

The school is an existing school, one of the best schools in N. Ratchasima who is willing to help me organize this project if there is enough demand for it.

But as it seems now, this project will never get off the ground.

Fahrangs want to learn Thai, but want a school which is teaching at each individual demand, when each individual feels that he can make a little bit time for it and that "private tutorial" shall be done for free.

Hi

The best answer is to do it on line. The Thai Education service runs a Thai course mainly meant for the children of Thais based overseas which is available to Farangs. You may have problems logging on with some browsers like Firefox so a bit of rooting about to enable log on the address is www.teachthai.com

This site offers reading and writing so it is probably the best option.

I've never taken any Thai classes but have organised a few for expat friends. Once when interviewing teachers they all emphasised their English ability. If they speak English well it is usually NOT good for the students learning Thai. They should never speak Thai in the classroom.

As for me -

Reading - I started with Prathom 1 books, getting Thai people to teach/readfor me(in Thai), then Prathom 2, Prathom 3 etc.

Writing - AUA bok for 200 baht was great and I taught myself.

Speaking/Listening - Thai friends who couldn't speak English, TV, songs and long-haired walking dictionaries :o

Can you please email the email address so I can avoid this school?
