Confused About What Visa

Hi,

I am a British 28 year old. I have been to Thailand several times this year and think I cannot turn up using the visa on arival system again. I am now looking to see what and where I can obtain a visa. Am I right in thinking I need to apply in person for a tourist visa, costing around £25, in Birmingham, London or Hull?

Dates in passport as follows:

25th Dec 07 - 14 Jan 08

22 May 08 - 8 June 08

12 Sept 08 - 10 Oct 08

10 Oct 08 - 30 Oct 08

I will be returning, maybe!??, on Tuesday 2nd December. I wish to stay for just under 6 weeks.

The rule regarding visa exempt entries is a maximum of 90 days in a 6 month period, starting from the day of first entry.

You can get a tourist visa. Best is to get one from Hull (very friendly) and you can apply by mail.

I thought that may be the case. Unfortunately Hull is the opposite end of the country for me! I am also, self inflicted, pushed for time and don’t think I can wait for the post. Is it easy to turn up with the required application form and photos and be dealt with the same morning. (Why are these places only open for 3 hours a morning!?)

If your dates are correct you started your first entry on May 22 so the 6 months ended on Nov. 22.

So when you come back you will have the full 90 days again. You will have to do a border run to get your full 6 weeks that you plan on staying.

His days will be allright, but going 6 weeks means he needs proof of onward travel within 30 days. Without that the airline can deny boarding, so a tourist visa is the best and no need for border run.

Sorry that is correct, they were 'Visa Exempt Entry Stamps' granted for 30 days entry. The last time I had to do a visa run hence the two 10th Oct dates.

From what I have found, to avoid any confusion or need for visa runs a tourist visa will be the best way to go. Thank you again for all the replys

So...

Based on an entry date of 2^nd December 2008 the ‘rolling’ 6 months starts on 2 June 2008

That is 6 days from then (2^nd june to the 8^th)

43 days from the last trip. (12^th September – 30^th Oct)

Total of 49 days in the 6 month period.

Therefore I have 41 days outstanding to use on an 'Visa Exempt Entry Stamp'

I would, however, have to complete a visa run at 30 days.

But… Where is it, if possible, to get a visa in London?

How else would you establish that someone is going for a maximum of 30 days?

I have to concur with K Lite Beer on this one.

It is certainly possible to suss out the dates, do a border run, and get your time in-country ok.

I would just get the tourist visa and be done with it. Save the in-country hassle and enjoy your time here.
