"Quoting Pierrot

There is only one real political leader in Thailand, and until we get an alternative, don't complain it's always the same guys in power.

Pierrot, who might this leader be? Just wondering. :D

A tricky question :o . Actually, beside the obvious Mr T, I may be tempted to add his evil twin Darth Vader Sondhi. Should the latter have chosen to put his talent to the service of the democrat (and the democracy), we may have a very different government today.

This reminds me of the Babylonian Captivity. Or the papacy in Avignon, France for decades. Or that night in Guthrie, Oklahoma when they stole the State Seal at the old state capital and rode the train south to Oklahoma City, where the capital has been ever since.

Hail the reincarnation of the Lanna Kingdom.

Three parties ordered to deliver closing speech in party-dissolution case on Dec 2

The Constitution Court Friday ordered the People Power Party, Chart Thai Party and Matchima Tipataya Party to deliver their closing statement in the party-dissolution case against them on December 2.

The court held a session at 10:30 am Friday and ordered the parties to send their leaders to deliver closing speech at 9:30 am.

If they do not attend the session, the court will regard that the parties forfeit their right to deliver the closing speech.

The court also dismissed the parties' request to hold more inquiries, saying the court has enough written evidence for deliberation.

For those of you that are reading challenged, what this means is the constitutional court will throw the current government out of power when it render its' finding that the PPP and MTP, CTP parties were guilty of corruption and vote buying....so much for those bleeding hearts that keep repeating the mantra that the government was the one the people chose to elect.

Thank you H90 for the post

Is it really dreaming to imagine a split Thailand with a new Lanna kingdom with Chaing mai as its capital.?..probably not!! and lets hope it does not go that far......maybe after 10 years of civil war ????

The south will progress and the north, well lets hope they 'wake up and smell the coffee'......why can they not see the obvious...how can they accept somebody like Thaksin??? and his puppet Somchai?

For the intellectually challenged ... nah, lets stay civil. Actually the opposition is currently trying to unsettle the government on three fronts : judiciary, military and "popular demand" (IMO mob power would be more appropriate). So far the government has resisted to the two last one, what make you think it will bow to the first one ?

IMO (again), if the judiciary process was about to succeed, the PAD and the army just made a huge mistake. Their recent action and declaration have just increase the legitimacy of the government in the eye of the population and the international community. It's obvious now that the democratically elected government is victim of a conspiration to unsettle it. The judiciary process will be seen as just an other attempt to defeat one of the most successful democracy of SE Asia. The "senior figure" may have that in his mind when he advised the PAD to retreat.

To go back to the subject of this thread, if the government has this time decided to challenge the court decision, it makes even more sense to move to Chiang Mai. Members of the government now talk overtly as Thaksin as their leader and of the support of the “red shirts”. As Clausewitz said “War is merely a continuation of politics by other means”.

This court case is the best way out for everyone now, because it is quite likely to dissolve the government and trigger an election. Unfortunately the problems will probably persist while all the 'campaigning' is going on...

Does the old refrain Nero fiddled while Rome burned....strike a familiar sound:

Somchai went on to insist that he still has no plans to return to Bangkok during this period, justifying this decision saying he can resolve the problems no matter where he is.

The Prime Minister is also presiding over the opening ceremony of the Royal Flora Ratchapreuk Exposition in Chiang Mai's Muang district this evening. :o
