it seems to be some kind of health suppliment, but i can't figure out what those orange, steamed strips on the end of the tweezers are.

i have some ideas, and i've been meaning to ask some thai people i know but i keep forgetting to do that. it will also be more fun getting your thoughts from tv, i'm sure :o .

also... what the hel_l's going on with the older actor's massive hair-do, and the guy waiting besides what looks like a conveyer belt? i've seen a lot of thais talk about this product refering to the ad. whatever it is i can see it's striking a chord with the folks on the bts - those with a spare 1000 baht for the "limite' edishan" :D .

now that is truely *D-I-S-G-U-S-T-I-N-G*!

i had a suspicion it was something from a bird's nest, seeing there is an emblem of a swallow on the package. some kind of chinese thing. i didn't realise it was the mucus :D though. thanks for the info otherstuff!

thais must really like their bird spittle then, but is there any particular reason? and do they really think there is scientific evidence for it's nutritional value - i don't know, maybe there is?

It sounds a bit dubious, but I wouldn't be that surprised if the bird mucus is actually regarded as a valuable commodity. Compare it with whale vomit, which is a vital ingredient in expensive perfume and very very expensive (look up "ambergris").
