Hi All

Just looking for a little bit of advice based on anybody's previce experiences

My girlfriend and I applied for a UK fiance visa a few weeks ago and she was given an appointment to go to VFS (the company that seems to handle the visa applications) today.

I sent her all the supporting documents she could possibly need and she took everything along with her this morning and they spoke to her.

She paid the fee, they checked all her documents, asking her questions as they looked through it all, took her finger prints and finally told her she could go and they would be in touch by SMS message in around 2 - 4 weeks. They kept her passport and all of my original supporting documents.

A couple of hours later they sent her a message saying that her application had been submitted to the British Embassy.

Is this normal?

Is it now a formality that she will get the fiance visa or does it mean the start of a very long process?

Anybody have any thoughts as to what they are doing or how the system works?

She did tell me that some girls were leaving with their passports and documents so I suppose she wasn't given an instant refusal but it is still worrying to know what will happen next

Any advice or help would be very much appreciated

Yes, this is all normal. No, it is by no means a formality. VFS is a company that the is used as the 'face' for the visa process. It ensures that the people making the decision on the visas actually receive complete applications with all the mandatory paperwork included. All visa applications are made through this centre and this is merely a check to see all the info needed to make a decision on is included. They have nothing to do with the actual visa decision, that is done by the visa officers at the embassy.

This is purely to save the embassy having to deal with the public and incomplete applications. Once they get your completed application & supporting documents it is passed across to the embassy. They will assess the application, and either make a decision on the information given, request a full interview or hold a telephone interview. Once the decision is made, the application pack that you handed in is sent back to the VFS. They won't know the decision, only that a decision has been made. The only way to get this is when your other half either picks it up, or has it delivered by courier.

It probably won't be as long as 4 weeks. You will probably have some kind of decision within about 2 weeks, unless they have to schedule a full interview. Your other half may get a phonecall for a chat early next week if they need to conduct a short phone interview to check a few things.

Thanks for your prompt reply

Anybody know the success rate of fiance visa applications ?

Each application is judged on its own merits without actually being aware of your personal situation i cannot comment. But I'm sure you have done your homework via this site and various others so good luck.
