Thailand shouldn't be referred to as a "Land of Smiles" any more. The 'Land of Idiots' is far more appropriate. :o

When terrorists (of any description) take over a country's main airport, a government must react swiftly and decisively. However the PM's request for the police to remove the protesters by 'gentle means' typifies the absurdity of the Thai Psyche (i.e. trying to save face at all costs and don't offend the guy who's beating you over the head with a hammer as he may get angry) :D

The PAD have now officially put me out of business. I have lost millions of Baht because of this latest development but I may recover by moving my business, and jobs, elsewhere. So I'll get over it, but how many Thai businesses are on the verge of financial ruin or bankruptcy?

Personally I detest the PAD Idiots, but I have now lost any hope I had in the current government to restore law and order.

No matter what happens, I fear there will be bloodshed in Thailand on a scale never seen before in modern times. The seizure of Suvarnabhumi airport will be the tipping point for an economic cataclysm that Thailand will never recover from. :D

Seriously, have you checked Cambodia. If you have, then double check.

Very business friendly and an emerging country that actually wants your business.

100% foreign ownership of companies and no stupid work permits to worry about. Low taxes and regulations, easy to start and easier to run.

What industry are you in?

Posted

the thais involved in this power play do not care about your business as they do not care about tourism, its really low on their priority, sad but true, and being an expat here makes you realise what it must be like for foreigners living in our own countries back home, somtimes not easy, sometimes unwelcoming,am sorry for your business and all the others suffering right now,and particularly those in the tourist industry, these are very dificult times abiut to get worse.

How many more will suffer the same fate?

Sondhi has a personal grudge against Thaksin cause they were in business together and Sondhi lost millions.

He will not stop until Thaksin is out.

No he doesn't care about the Thai economy.

Sorry to hear this. I am very interested to hear the 'real' economical/business affects of all this so please do tell us a bit about what industry you are in and the actual affects.

P.s Vietnam is also doing quite well now, just needs decent infrastructure though.

Never start a business in Thailand. How selfish can you get worying about your own finances over the future of a country. It is essential to get the prime Minister out, can't you see this?

Many ex pats living here are considering leaving. I for one am going to wait. I have 6 months left on my condo rental contract and I am going to use that time to evaluate all options. I have had a great time here, I have learned to cope with the BS, but i feel it is time to move on.

I feel sorry for those ex pats who have lost a lot of money. I haven't got any to lose :o

Ohh pleeeeease...

So then what, another general election?

The people have spoken twice allready, the majority want this government.

They will get elected again, no question.

Do you seriously want a group of thugs and terrorists ruling Thailand?

Many businesses are moving to Vietnam. Thailand once on the verge of development, has now taken steps backward that might take a several decades if not a century to recover.

Barry

Well im inclined to agree, we saw on the news that Nissan and Toyota are considering moving to Vietnam,,seems Thailand has bitten the hand that feeds it,. what a mess,.

Same thing here, and my brother in law's tourism company that he works 80hours a week minimum on is on the verge of bankruptcy now.. im definately not gonna stay in a country where the army and governement are happy about having hardworking NATIONALS lose their whole life's work because they are too afraid to shoot a bunch of aristocratic losers with rubber bullets

What was the reason you came ? :o

What are you waiting more to go???

Is out of my understanding why so many Tv members stay/live/have business in Thailand and 24/7 complaining about the country and the Thai.

IMO I'm sure people moving to Cambodia, VN, or wherever, just follow to complain.

It's a sort of national sport for anglo-saxons countries??

How selfish can you get worying about your own finances over the future of a country.

such comments are reminiscent of the grey faced socialist dinosaurs who presided over some of the eastern european communist states as they slowly sank into oblivion.

the finances of businesses operating here are inextricably linked to the future of the country.

thailand needs businesses that are successful , and needs those who are prepared to risk the investment needed to start up those businesses.

Are they ?

I've been hearing this for the last 18 years, but still they stay.

Yes. I have heard it many times before as well. The hard core will stay for sure. But I do not think I will be one of them unless things improve dramatically - especially the exchange rate !

I have 3 business in Thailand, I can be worry, but It's to early to make so black forecasts.

BTW, call Thailand "the land of Idiots" don't seems very nice to me. That's why I write about people always complaining about LOS

What a cry baby !!! Thailand is better off without a whinger like you .Sounds like you are wishing for a blood bath .

I've just seen 5 years of hard work go down the toilet!

We run/ran a legitimate teaching agency which placed hundreds of teachers within Thai schools.

117 schools, to be exact, and countless Thai students will no longer have an English teacher this coming term due to an unprecedented number of cancellations from our teachers.

I've spent years helping Thailand, not whinging.

Also i have a two month old daughter and a Thai wife so the last thing I want to see in Thailand is a blood bath.

If you'll read my post again you'll may get a measure of the problems facing ALL business owners (foreign and Thai) right now and the general sentiment as a direct result of the airport closure.

Cry baby? Piss off.

It is not pleasent to read comments mocking foreign investment being turned away as a result the current political climate. Thailand needs foreign investment. It doesn't need investment moving away.

Think for one moment. Perhaps the OP enjoys (ed) living in this country and wants to live here. Perhaps he has family to support. Now he cannot.

Not every one has a financial safety net, savings, pensions whatever.

Sometimes people have to move countries. Not because they are complaining. Because they have to to keep living.

I lost out a lot of money on this debacle also.

Not complaing. But can understand those that are.

Am sure there will be a good supply of teachers around, once the commercial sector slumps.

I might start my TEFL now.

This is different from the normal complaints isn't it... because of the Thais' temper tantrums and ineffectual government, this guy's life may be ruined, along with many others who have nothing to do with the argument. This on top of global economic ruin- I agree, this does feel like the land of the idiots right now.
