What Is Happening With Mail Deliveries (thailand Post , Ems , Etc)

Featured Replies

The last I heard is that Thailand Post will resume mail deliveries as soon as Suvarnabhumi reopens. In case this takes several weeks, does anyone know what will happen with mail deliveries? Such as normal mail, EMS, etc.

I imagine Thailand Post is by now swamped with outgoing mail that can't be delivered, and also expecting a huge amount of incoming mail waiting to be delivered to Thailand from every country around the world.

What is the solution to this? :o

Looks like the Thai economy loses the cash I would have spent on Christmas cards and postage this year, no point sending Xmas cards that will arrive next March, I can e-mail, and phone instead.

On a more serious note, Not just Thailand, does the mail from Laos and Cambodia route through BKK ? Where are the DHL and Fedex hubs ?

Yet another poke in the eye from the scum occupying the airport.

You're right, there's a backlog of EMS parcels waiting to go out which are queued. Unless you know an EMS bod who can get your parcel on the first planes (TG) then it's a waiting game. My business relies on EMS exports from Thailand and my EMS guy will call me as soon as there's any chance of parcels moving...so I'll let you know.

On another thread there is talk that international couriers are transporting parcels overland and then flying them from there...no real confirmation yet on how long this is taking and how reliable it is.

I'm sure all the valuables in those sitting EMS parcels will be completely unmolested.

According to the online tracking system my packages are still sat the post office where i dropped them off.

(Obviously tracking system could be wrong), but i'd hazard a guess that all the packages are just piling up at the local post offices; i'm not sure they are even sending them to the airport at this point.

we are not even going to bother to send our xmas presants or cards untill at least a week after its sorted , no point.

I have an EMS package I sent on the 19th (Saturday). The protests started on the 23rd (Tuesday) at night. It still shows in Suvarnabhumi. Was supposed to leave for Japan.

I spoke to a guy from DHL on Friday night.

They are sending trucks to/from Singapore

I was at Utapao airport on saturday morning 7.00am and I saw a fed ex plane ready to go.

Mail is another indirect cost that is hard to calculate from this mess. Obviously businesses have to correspond and mail things, exchange data items, etc.

Welcome to the world of commerce infrastructure, roads, currency, transport, information, etc. The world is very dependent on these things in some areas and disruptions can be a problem.

Off the topic, I thought I read somewhere that Cambodia or Laos contracts their "national" mails service to somebody. I thought I remember Russia, and all mail gets bagged up and flows through there on the way to other countries.

I was at Utapao airport on saturday morning 7.00am and I saw a fed ex plane ready to go.

I saw a Fedex package arrive at our office and asked the delivery guy and he said it was coming in to Utapao. Asked him and the secretaries about EMS, no deliveries at all until the airports re-open. :o

I sent 60 kilos in 4 boxes with TNT, left on 27/11/08 arrived 1/12/08, tracking showed it went via KL/SING ,

All the major couriers are business as usual,( albeit by road to KL/Sing ) EMS is stagnent,.part of the Thai postal system so no surprises there :o

With cargo services resuming today at the airport, will that include mail? I assume mail is sent via cargo, not via passenger planes.

For those interested, Thailand Post services are slowly coming back to normal, but they still have a huge backlog. Items sent from Thailand on the 26th of November are still in Suvarnabhumi and have not yet left.

any further news?

just wondering about sending xmas presents. also, they're DVDs from burma - any idea whether they'll get thru uk customs?
