I think many (myself included) are disappointed because a minority group, through terrorist/thuggish/criminal behavior, were able to dictate national politics; with absolutely no repercussions. It sets a terrible precedent; next time anyone has an axe to grind guess where they will be headed?

Well that's a moot point. It could be argued that the constitutional court would have come to the same decision anyway, and that's all that has happened. The independance of the court from outside pressures is another question all together but all branched of the Thai judiciary are similarly influenced to a degree.

The lesson to be learnt here by the police is the ease with which the PAD took over such important facilities without opposition. One would hope they would learn from this and, should this kind of action ever be attempted in the future, be in a position to block access to such strategic facilities.

But there's the rub, how independant are the police? Or, who is the real power in the country?

To a large building with no duty free, aircraft or customers?

I am incredibly overjoyed that the Thai police and the Thai military did not take the unwelcome advice of ThaiVisa's armchair Rambos and keyboard Terminators, and did not kill Thais as some on this forum so viciously argued. Thank God/Buddha that so few people got injured, and the Thai people ended the debacle in time for birthday festivities. We will see how badly damaged the airports are, but probably only a fraction of the damage that it would have been if the Thais in uniform had gone on the rampage suggested by some of our members.

Yes, holiday plans were ruined, the nation's 'face' was soiled, and those are shameful. Thank God the forensic pathologists are not sorting out hundreds or thousands of corpses. Rambo is not Thai.

The riot squad was at the airport before PAD. They never could have taken the place over if they were not allowed to. It could have been prevented with little violence. All of the groups that were supposed to support the government were working for the other side. :o
