Firefox 3.1 Beta 2 was released

New features and changes in this milestone that require feedback include:

- This beta is now available in 54 languages - get your local version and let us know if it looks right.

- A new Private Browsing Mode that allows you to browse without Firefox storing any traces of where you’ve been - perfect for online holiday shopping!

- New functions that make it easy to remove the history of your past few hours of browsing, or remove all traces of a website.

- New support for web worker threads.

- The new TraceMonkey JavaScript engine is now on by default for web content.

- Improvements to the Gecko layout engine, including speculative parsing for faster content rendering.

- Removed the new tab-switching & preview behavior based on feedback from Beta 1 users

- Support for new web technologies such as the <video> and <audio> elements, the W3C Geolocation API, JavaScript query selectors, CSS 2.1 and 3 properties, SVG transforms and offline applications.

Downloaded and installed with no problems. It appears that add ons do not work yet. Firefox must have felt they needed a faster browser to compete with the rest. I'll give it a fair try.

George,

Will this new FireFox allow us Mac users to once again view ThaiVisa? Remember your project to UPGRADE the system? It kept Mac users from using their preferred browser. I have not heard from you in a very long time. Your UPGRADE certainly was not one for me. I currently have to switch to Safari to view ThaiVisa. I still do it because I like the site, but it's a bit of a pain.

What's Gecko, and Trace Monkey? I don't know anything about those.

OK I confess I am still on FF2, I always like the bugs to be ironed out first, I have really held out on this one.

Even though "New Tab Homepage" add-on no longer works on FF2. :o

OK anyway it sounds like things are shaping up.

Thank goodness for being able to do holiday shopping in private mode, I have been worrying about that all year! :D

Thanks for the update! :D

I'm using FF 2.0.0.18 as some (20+) of my extensions still aren't compatible with FF v 3+.
