Transit And Tourist Visa Rules Confirmation Please

Featured Replies

Here's the deal >> I've been here now for almost 2.5 years (i have a child) and had settled into my nice routine of going to Cambodia 6 times a year and Singapore twice a year but then they changed the rules (again - *groan*) I've been reading that I can goto the border every 15 days for as many times I want...is this correct? Although they haven't asked me in months, will they require a plane ticket still? Has anyone gone to Cambodia since they changed the rules? Next question: Getting a tourist visa from Singapore (or anywhere else for that matter) can still only be done twice a year, once every 6 months or has this rule changed too? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also I should mention that I have a 7 month son and will be applying for a one year visa (timing isn't right to do it now financially) and have read that they require either 40,000B a month or 400,000 in the bank. My question is what paperwork do we have to provide to show them. A bank statement or a note from an employers? Which is better (or is one required over the other)

Thanks again!

Derek

You will find this thread helpful in answering your questions

for income from overseas you need to get a declaration via your embassy

for thai bank deposit you need a letter from your bank and your passbook

As to your question relating to tourist visas; the rule is and was that you can have as many as you want. Best place is Laos Vientane, where they will give you a double.

If you use income for your application, it is an affidavit on which your embassy certifies your signature. If based on money in the bank it is the savings account book and a copy of it plus a letter from your bank confirming the account balance.

If you get a 2 entry tourist visa from Vientiane you only have to do that twice a year. There has never been a restriction from getting a visa back to back. In Singapore you were only getting a single entry. Make your next trip to Vientiane and get a 2 entry that means after extensions at immigration you will just need to do a border run after 90 days and use the 2nd entry.

Since you have a Thai child you could also go to KL or Penang and get a 1 year multiple entry non-o visa.

Another option is to get a 60 day extension at immigration to visit your child.

See 2.18 for info on 1 year extension and 2.24 for the 60 day extension of the police order.

Thank you for that information. I haven't been able to find out some information as to the 60 day ext. for visiting my child. Do I need a certain visa type or can I request a 60 day extension while on a 15 day transit visa? And how much is this and what are the requirements? Many thanks again! ~D~

I think you mean a 15 day visa exempt entry not a transit visa.

A lot will depend upon the immigration office you go to. If they don't invoke the 21 day (remaining on your entry) rule then no problem or if you have just got the entry and they were to give you a 7 day extension (1900 baht).

It will cost 1900 baht for the extension. You will need a copy of the childs birth certificate that shows you as the father plus copies of your passport photo page, entry/permit to stay stamps and your TM6 (departure card) plus 2 photos.

I also suggest you take the childs mother along when you go. It helps to show that you are living as a family.

It is not necessary to have entered on a specific type of visa; you can get this extension even after having arrived in Thailand without a visa and received permission to stay for 15 days. Apply not later than the last day of your permission to saty.

The fee is 1,900 Baht. The application form is TM.7

Thank you for this information! Is this extention for just 7 or 15 days? Wasn't I reading that this could be for 60 days? I just called the immigration bureau but its all automated and doesn't seem to answer any questions. Wasn't there a hotline where I could talk to someone? Again, thanks for the help! ~D~

The extension is for 60 days. As Maestro gave you above.

2.24 In the case of an alien

visiting a Thai spouse or child:

Permission

will be granted for a period of not more than 60 days at a time

(1) Proof of relationship.

(2) In the case of a spouse, their marital relationship shall be de

jure (legitimate) and de facto.
