Seen removal done at a shop, wait two hours, then put on new film, but I just want to carve out a small section so I can see my rear view side mirror.

Tried fingernail paint removal, didn't work.

Other than tedious scraping with my pocket knife, got any other ideas?

Go to the shop and tell him to cut out that piece you want and I gues it will take him 5 minutes... slip him 50B as a thank you... Both of you are happy then... Not difficult...

By yourself I would get some water and soap, make a small cut and get some water between the film and the window. then fill in more water as it will make the film drop from the window... be careful so you will not take off to much...

Good luck...

18 years old tint = 18 year old car...maybe time for a new car :o

I miscalculated, bought the pickup December 1989, thus 19 years and running pretty well at 351,000 km. Would be more but also bought a 2nd hand van 5 years ago and have put about 150,000 km on it.

Time for a new car? Nah, altho am looking for a 2nd hand 2005 new style Toyota HiAce, low top model. Have posted here before on that subject. Had a thought, tho, that with the lowering of tourist numbers, there'll be fewer chartering the many vans zapping around the countryside. A friend of mine has such and says business these last few weeks has been sloooow, and he's heard from other owners that the finance companies are looking to be taking back relatively new vans. Have seen a few at the Union-Auction outlet out here at Klong 8, Thanyaburi, will keep checking.

I already got my pocket knife out and carved a "window" so I could view the side mirror. Peeled off a seemingly top layer of film OK, but that left another layer on the glass. That's what I tried the fingernail polish remover on, nada, zip, still there. It scrapes, but that'd be a tedious process.

If the film is too dark for you to see the mirror chances are it's too dark to be legal (and safe, can you see motorcycles with no lights coming from the side?).

Time for replacement with a more modern legal film maybe :o

The film isn't very dark, made sure of that when installed 19 years back, it's just bubbly and scratched in that particular area, which is why I want that portion cleared out.

Re the bumpers, the pickup came with the standard Thai tincan material bumpers and in not too long got all bent out of shape. I costed replacements and even the cheap ones were baht 1,200 or so. So, down to the local lumber yard and buy a couple of 2x6s, sawed them down, drilled a couple of holes, and there she be. Rear bumper ran baht 250, front bumper was baht 350 'cause had to have a metal bracket made by the local mooban ironmonger.

One big advantage of these bumpers is that if there's a small ding, just sand it out and revarnish! Plus, other folks tend to get out of the way when they see them....

Hi, try hairspray. I use hairspray to remove all traces of glued tape, and it hasn't let me down yet, tho never tried removing window tint. If it doesn't work at first try more as it evaporates quickly, and soak the cloth.

Slice away the section you want cleared with a razor blade, wet the section to be removed, lots of water is needed, detergent (dishwashing liquid) is a great addition, then remove the section from the edges, remove any glue residue with

1) Commercial glue remover

2) Eucalyptus Oil

3) Hairspray

Be careful to squeegee out any water under the remaining piece to prevent it prematurely lifting, although if it bubbling the glue is on the way out anyway.
