Downloadable Well Written Articles ?

Featured Replies

A thing I sometimes miss in Thailand is reading lengthy and well written articles (interviews, human interest, travelling) from quality magazines. So I would like to have some recommendations regarding magazines which offer the possibility to download and print these articles ?

Pardon me if this seems obvious, but if you are posting on this forum then you must have access to a computer. Simply subscribe to the online versions of the magazines you prefer and download the articles here in Thailand as you would in your home country.

I like the way you say "well-written" articles, as though it's a defineable trait. Reminds me of people who say "I like all good music.", or "You need to have a sense of humour to like this."

You can always subscribe to hard-copy magazines, you know. I have a standing order with "Intelligent Movies That Make You Think Monthly" and "Articles That Are Alright But Not Really That Great Quarterly."

look at popurls.com for a daily aggregated list of news items and articles

I seem to notice some decent articles on slate dot com.

I subscribe to The New Yorker magazine, and yes the writing is consistently of a high standard IMHO. Not sure if all the articles are also on the website.

well, actually, it is a definable trait. you can judge an article by the quality and standard of the grammar, choice of wording and expression, the validity and newness of the research, etc, etc.

some articles in magaznies and journals are not particularly 'well written'. people will often buy magazines not for reading pleasure per se, but to 'gloss' or 'flick' through while travelling, look at the pictures, get ideas for new clothing or haircuts, etc. this does not mean that the quality of those kinds of magazines are any worse than those with lengthy and topical research features, it just means that the quality of writing in the articles might not be that good.

btw - a can sympathise with the op. it's hard finding good stuff to read, and people to talk to in thailand. thais aren't exactly the most enlightened people to share ideas with.

you can always subscribe to a university or library in your own country, and read e-publications they have available online here in thailand.
