I wrote this thread on the phuket site and did not get 1 answer

A friend told me it is a great time to visit Phuket as all the accommodation places are hurting with empty rooms, no tourists

So the Thai wife and I decided to go

But the prices are still the normal shoulder season to high season prices and double that of low season

we are looking for a nice quiet 3 star on the beach, we have stayed at the Bann Boa Resort before for bout 1200 bhat

but they want 2400 now and the place is empty

Can any one tell me what is happening down here

Or reccommend a good place to stay that need tourists in the rooms, and is not asking stupid high season prices with an empty hotel

Laguna

Very nice

but I think a little higher than 3 star

I have THAI wife remember

and spending that much money would be a sin

They have a good promotion going!

Incredible rates for Thailand residents, from THB 1,799 per night

Laguna Phuket, Asia's finest destination resort

More accurate information would be:

Allamanda Laguna Phuket - Bt2,299

Laguna Beach Resort - Bt3,500

Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket - Bt3,900

Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket - Bt4,999

Banyan Tree Phuket - Bt8,900

Laguna Phuket Holiday Residences - Bt6,999

So not quite Bt1,799 and even Bt2,299 for the cheapest of the bunch with the rest being, on average, considerably more.

Breakfast included but I would have thought they should offer some reasonable discount on food and drink on site to lure people to spend all their time at the resort.

I guess they won't be publishing any menus up anytime soon (with prices !).

Stupid Thai logic also adopted by westerners doing business here. The fewer the number of customers, the higher you raise the prices.

Thai price logic lesson 101:

You want to make Bt1000

100 customers, charge Bt10 each

10 customers, charge Bt100 each

1 customer, charge Bt1000 to the stupid sap.

0 customers, err ????????

Rang Kellys Hotel like was stated on the site

The hotel is booked out for the next 2 months

So it seems that Thailand being in trouble is only existing in the media

Every where we have rung wants high season rates till April

its the same across the board - there is a certain figure in mind and nothings going to change it.

No customers or customer walks in and wants a discount they say no - peak season. Then they let 1000+ baht walk out the door.

This year you may see a lot of crash and burn because of this logic.

Already many major hotels have shut their restaurants, slashed their advertising budgets, shed staff etc. So do the maths of how many are effected - cooks, cleaners, service staff, drivers etc. and their families.

2009 is hsaping up ncely

We can indeed tell you what's happening down here but we can't pick your hotel for you, 1,200 Baht for a beach front hotel in Phuket in high season is pushing things a little, even given the current economic environment!

Better to go broke than bend , that sure is good logical thinking , no comment needed , TIT .
