Questions About The Thai Visa

Featured Replies

Hi everyone just had a few questions about the thai visas

1) We were already in Thailand for 30 days (From the US so exempt) and we ended up overstaying by one day = 500 Baht paid... does this overstay have any effect on us re-entering the country?

2) We will be in Laos and originally planned to enter overland into Thailand until we realized that it was shortened to a 15 day stay when you enter via land borders versus the 30 day stay by flying in... we would still prefer to enter overland seeing as we would like one last visit to Chiang Mai before heading to southern thailand and it is costly to fly out of Laos. So my question is... is it possible to get a 30 day visa extension for thailand at the over land border crossing? Or should we get one at the Embassy... secondly does anyone know the price for the extension?

Thankyou so much for the help... we have been searching online and have no luck finding answers and we are currently in Cambodia and have not stopped by any embassies yet and had hoped to save on some time.

Thanks!

Kim

1. No problem.

2. It is not possible at the border. A Thai Consulate will issue you a 60 day Tourist Visa 1,000 Baht. Vientienne Laos will give a Double Entry for 2,000 Baht.

1. No.

2. The 30-day permission to stay your received when you entered Thailand without a visa can be extended at any immigration office, but by only seven days. If you want to stay longer than that you have to go to a Thai consulate and get a Tourist visa.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

I am surprised that you were fined for a one day overstay.

I was under the impression that one day was gratis, then the fines kicked in.

No problem when you come back.

They probably went to Laos by land. At airports the first day of overstay is waived, provided you leave the first day of your overstay. If you leave after the first day of overstay you will have to pay the first day as well. At landborders the first day is not waived.
