Is there any way for a Thai national to renew thier ID card without going to Thailand? Can a family member living in Thailand have it renewed?

Thai Embassy in USA is giving my wife the run around. Her passport is expired (already renewed it the one time) and so is her ID card. They told her she needs a valid ID card to get a new passport. Of course, she cant travel home to renew her ID card with an expired passport. They told her someone can renew her ID card for her in Thailand, but I really dont see how that can work.

Any help would be greatly apprciated.

Thanks, Ken

Believ she can't get a new ID card abroad. However, as a Thai national she can travel to Thailand with an expired passport without any problems.

Tell the overpaid embassy offical who is only there cause they were born into the right family to get that washington posting that they are full of cr@p, and ask to speak to someone higher up who knows what they are talking about.

My younger sister, who was born in thailand, but never lived there, just this past December renewed her Thai passport in London based on a photocopy of the house registration, a photo copy of her old ID, and he long expired Thai passport.

I myself have renewed my Thai passport at overseas embassies (Australia) twice simply using an old Thai passport and my birth certificate.
