Lese Majeste - Dosnt Seem To Work Both Ways

Recommended Posts

Read an interesting letter in the bangkok post where the poster pointed out that under the thai constitution insulting foreign heads of state/countries can also result in severe penalties.

I noted this after reading the (Quickly closed) news clipping on the enforcement of Lese majeste here which quickly drew responses on the case of an Australian writer.

It is interesting to note that even though the constitution has harsh penalties for insulting foreign monarchs/heads of state, this has never been implemented, or even commented on really.

I have noted many instances in the Thai press and from reports of Thai political rallies where foreign countries and leaders have been savaged but never any attempt to implement the constitution on this.

Lese Majesty laws in Thailand are to be taken seriously and are enforced by the Thai authorities.

I have no choice but to close this topic before speculation starts.
