Visa Start Date

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have been perusing many posts to try and find out whether the time on a visa begins on the date the visa is issued or on the date of entry and have found all kinds of conflicting information with no definitive answer.

My situation is this: I am a 28 year old female currently in Thailand on my 3rd tourist visa. I will be taking a language in course in March for which I am eligible for a 3 month ED visa, however I have to leave the country and apply at a consulate outside of Thailand.

I am planning on travelling through India in Feb. and need to apply for the visa in Delhi, where I will be in the beginning of Feb. Since I won't actually be returning to Thailand until the end of Feb. I am concerned whether my 3 months is going to begin in the beginning of Feb. when I get the visa, in which case I lose almost a month of time I can stay in Thailand, or will my 3 months begin when I enter the country?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this might require big adjustments to my travel plans.

The 90 day use by date is from the date of issue. But the 90 day permit to stay that the visa gives you starts on the date of entry.

So even if you enter at the end Feb. you will get your full 90 days.
