Skype Lite / Skype Mobile

I recently had to make a call home to a friend, but when I was online I noticed his skype nick had a note about being available through his mobile. I went ahead and called him on it and it seemed great. I believe he uses an iphone over there in the U.S. I see that quite a few of the phone models that support Skype mobile are available here in Thailand as well. What I am wondering is if it works here as well? I assume the Edge/GPRS networks are a bit slower here of course... Have any of you tried this app on your mobile? Call quality? Seems like it would save a good chunk of change to call at skype rates vs. IDD rates. But I would hate to upgrade phones and find it doesn't work well here. I saw an older thread that mentioned this, but am hoping perhaps that things might have come along some since then.
