Ordering Books

Featured Replies

What's the best way to order books on the internet from Thailand?

I've tried to order books from Amazon before, but they don't seem to be able to send them to Thailand. Is this true for all books, or just the ones I've been interested in?

Anyone got any advice?

What kind of books are you interested in?

Never had any problems buying from Amazon and having them sent over here. eBay is another option.

I'm just putting together a list of books, about a 1000, that I'm selling from my collection. PM if you want to look at the list.

Cheers,

We order books regularly from Amazon for the office and there is usually never an issue.

daedalus books has a great selection of remainders --a site full of unusual books, and they ship overseas.

Get a (free) membership from, your nearest, Asiabook.

(B2S is even better but application is in Thai only)

If they do not have what you are looking for, they will ordered it.

Take less time (if delivery needed) than an internet order,

and comes at the end around 20% cheaper than the usual websites.

Hope this helps...

I had problems with Amazon some years ago, but not for the past 5 years.

A friend suggested Amazon.uk for better exchange rate. Haven't tried it yet, but might be worth a look.

Barnes and Noble have been helpful, too, if Amazon hasn't had what I wanted.

You must order from amazon itself...........and not one of their merchants

usually merchants are cheaper..........but they won't deliver to Thailand

pay the higher amazon price and they will

Not true, It's up to the Amazon merchant where they want to post to. Some post international, some don't.

If it's second hand books you are interested in you can order from www.farangbooks.com they have a small collection but there might be something that you are interested in, you pay at the bank and they will post the books to you.

I order and receive books quite regular from Amazon uk never had a problem .

If your looking for management publications, academic books, text books and more, then can I suggest try Chula University Book Shop. Enter from the back Soi in Siam Square. Walk in, and take the stairs up to the mezanine level. Lots of good English, good listeners, very service oriented.

They have agreements from a number of the big name publishers for very very large discounts (discounts for developing countries). I've bought new management publications and text books there for say US$20- which were US$120-, plus individual courier costs from US book stores.

If the book is not in the Chula stock they will quickly contact their suppliers to see it's in bulk storage, this seems mainly to be in Singapore. They are very good at giving prompt clear answers, and offering possible suggestions for other ways to try to find a publication, if they can't help.

If it's in the main stock in SIngapore, delivery will usually be 2 to 3 days. And they seem to have a bulk shipping arrangemet so your book comes in a bigger lot and you only pay a share of the courier costs.

They will also deliver to your office or home, if it's in the closer city area. Last time I used this it was a cash only process, no credit card facility. Deliver was 40Baht, but maybe this has gone up, not sure.

If you call them before 11:00am (thinks it's 11:00am) and they have your publication in stock, they will deliver same day, as above, it used to be 40Baht, cash only transaction.

Have you tried Asia Books in Bangkok?? I ordered from their web-site and they were delivered to Isaan within 2 days -- only 1 not in stock. Big web-site with regular promos.

I often deal via www.abebooks.com with individual book sellers who'll normally be happy to ship overseas.
