I just booked a one-way flight with westeasttravel.com (had to phone it through because their web CC form is NOT secure) and they said I could have a booking with an extra 10kg of luggage allowance, making it 30kg and my R. Orchid Plus allowance could be added to that making 40kg in total. The price difference between the two was about £3.

Now, having spent the last couple of weeks wading in the mire of Thai's rules about excess/unaccompanied/freight baggage and getting nowhere and resigning myself to the 30kg, I'm a little skeptical and do not want to turn up at Heathrow to be told I'm overweight by 10kg which will cost me more than the flight itself in excess fees.

So, is this too good to be true? I haven't used E-WT before, how do they swing this?

they flog fares for thai and eva - on top of discounted tickets they do frequently have some perks, like increased luggage alowance (sometimes you just have to ask for it). It's great they offered it to you and for that small charge.

once I was referred to WE by the thai airways booking office clerk for discounted fares, when I mentioned that booking on the thai airways site is to expensive for me. WE is absolutely kosher, you won't have any problems

Thanks for the reassurance LT. A twist is that if I check the booking on checkmytrip.com it says 20kg/traveller. I'll have to see what W-ET produce in writing on Monday.

Hi Phaethon,

I have used West East Travel for many years when living in the UK. They do, as another poster mentions, often have special fares with Thai International. I used to buy Q class fares which always allowed 30 kg of luggage, plus the additional allowance for your ROP status and 100% mileage accrual.

West East normally issues an e-mail confirmation soon after you have made your booking. In this e-mail it states your luggage allowance.

Also, as you indicate, you have booked a one way fare to - I assume - Bangkok. Thai Airways has, in the past allowed extra luggage for passengers on a one way ticket. I suggest that you contact Thai at the airport, a week or so before you fly and ask them if they will allow you extra free luggage. On one trip, albeit some years ago, they allowed me 100 kg for free, instead of the 40 kg as a Gold member. At that time, I spoke to the Operations manager at the airport a week before the flight. This was when I had just bought my Condo here in Bangkok and I wanted to bring stuff over from the UK.

If you want more info, PM me.

Despite all the bad news that has been written lately about Thai Airways, I have always found them extremely efficient and generous in the luggage allowances; hold as well as cabin.

Good luck anyway.

Thanks FRM-BKK, confidence is building...

There was some confusion over my CC details so the email didn't make it out before Timmie knocked off for the weekend. Hopefully it will be as you say come Monday.

The thing is I've had so many people try to screw me (and not in a good way) in this country in the last year or so that it's difficult not to expect the worst.
