Sira Noitip, 36, of 2408 E. 10th Street, was booked into the Joplin City Jail on Thursday, following a sting involving the Joplin Police Cyber Crimes Detective. Noitip, who is in the US on a tourist visa, is expected to be transferred into federal custody next week. sriracha john Posted February 1, 2009 Author Share Posted February 1, 2009 Sira Noitip Joplin Independent Man arrested on child porn charges Sira Noitip, 36, pictured, an immigrant from Thailand who is in the United States on a tourist visa was arrested at 2408 E. 10th St., Joplin, on January 29, 2009, on charges of possession of child pornography and distribution of child pornography. The Office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement has been notified and has placed a detainer to hold Noitip so they his visa may be revoked. The United States Attorney’s Office in Springfield is filing charges. The Joplin Globe newspaper identified the man as Sira Noitip, 36, who was reportedly living in Joplin as a tourist. Joplin police said they arrested Sira last Thursday "following a sting involving the Joplin Police Cyber Crimes" department. He is likely to be turned over to US federal officials next week, police said, where he faces trial, a prison sentence and deportation. After a five-week undercover investigation in Joplin, Missouri, conducted by the Cyber Crimes Unit of the Barry County Sheriff's Department and the Cassville Police Department, 36 year-old Sira Noitip was arrested at his Joplin residence. According to a Crime Scene Investigation blog, the police said that Sira was in the United States on a Tourist Visa and that officers with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency (ICEA) have placed a detainment order on him. A news release from the Joplin Police Department said that the United States Attorney's Office in Springfield, Missouri is in the process of filing federal child porn charges against Noitip as well. Noitip is scheduled to be transferred to federal custody next Monday, the blog said. In a "flip side" arrest by Thai Tourist Police last week, 31-year-old Ukrainian Maxsim Shynkarenko was apprehended in Phuket and turned over to the Bangkok Criminal Court where he faces extradition to the United States. Although there are no charges against him in Thailand, Shynkarenko is wanted in the U.S. on five charges, including child pornography. The Phuket arrest followed cooperation between the Thai police and the American ICEA. It was not immediately known whether or not there is any connection between the two suspects or their arrests. The rage is most certainly understandable given the heinous nature of such crimes. What is not so understandable is the lynch mob mentality, or the 'eye for an eye', view. How can one be outraged by a crime and then advocate a punishment that is state supported, or condoned, repetition of that same crime? It beggars belief.
