hi guys, a friend of mine in the uk with his thai wife has just lost his job, his wife has a job not earning a lot but has a job,they are coming to the end of there 2 year sett visa, have passed the uk test, and are about to apply for ILR, will the fact he is not employed have a negative on the application, i guess he would be better getting any old job, any thought please,

Yes, unless he has substantial savings in the bank then he's better off getting some kind of job as he still has to prove that they can financially maintain themselves. From Section 10 of ILR Application form:

Evidence of your finances. Bank statements, building society savings book(s), pay slips or other formal documents as evidence of your and your partner’s ability to maintain and accommodate yourself and any dependants without recourse to public funds (see Note 7).

thanks for that charlie,i will pass that on to him, as i said his thai wife is working in the uk, i seem to recall somthing about they must have at least £90 A week cooming in ,ie the same as a married couple would have IF they were claiming benifts ?

In the current economic climate, with many people losing their jobs, you'd like to think they'd be a little bit lenient and understanding, but then you realise it's the UK Border Agency...
