New Passport Soon. Non B Visa , Entry Stamp Timing

Featured Replies

I have 4 months remaining on my existing Passport ( expires in May ) . I need to make one more Visa run ( April ) before I leave the Kingdom , In 5 Months ( June )..

The question is , if I only have 6 weeks remaining on my Passport , will they still give me a 90 Day Entry Stamp ? :o

Then I can re-new my passport at a more convenient time ( May), and transfer the NON B Visa to the New Passport.

Get a new passport. Thailand requires 6 months remaining on your passport to enter.

You will need to get a new passport.

They will not trasfer the visa to a new passport, only the entry stamp. Until the visa is expired you will need to carry both passports when crossing the border. The transfer of the stamps and details is free and doesn't take long.

  • 3 months later...

I'm about to head Suan Plu shortly to transfer the entry stamp (have non-imm one year multi).

Do i need any copies with me from the old / new passport with me ?

Copies are not normally required. Be sure you have the letter from the embassy stating they issued you a new passport.

Thanks Joe,

I asked my embassy regarding the letter and they said not needed. I thought that was weird as previously they have always issued one as default.

Never transferred before as i was just in 30 day stamp and just left using both passports.

Anyways let's see how it goes without the letter. Will report back later.

Every time I have done copies were required (3 times now). But you can get done across the street easily enough if they are. My last visit was a week ago but was an extension of stay transfer rather than visa entry - and copies are definitely required in that case.

Ok, just back from Suan Plu.

Below is the list exactly as it is stated behing the application form.

Document required for transfer stamp to new passport

1. Transfer stamp to new passport form

2. Certificate from embassy (if it available)

3. Copy of former passport with your photo

4. Copy of new passport with your photo

5. Copy of last arrival stamp in your passport

6. Copy of visa stamp in your passport (if it available)

7. Copy of last extend visa in your passport

8. Copy of TM Card

So fairly simple process. Went to info desk and was handed application form to fill in with above list of copies needed. Filled in the application form (I xxx request to change stamp from old pp no to new pp no...), took copies outside (old pp photo page, new pp photo page, arrival stamp from old pp, non-imm one year visa sticker copy from old pp, TM 6). Then back to info desk and was handed over que number for desk 4 (lost passport). No que and was on my way home in 25 minutes.

Note: No letter from embassy was asked, from list above it seems you need to submit copy if you have one or then maybe they require from some embassies only. My passport is from Finland so at least it seems that EU passports do not require letter.

Also to be noted that i do not have extension of stay, only one year multiple non-imm O visa which was not transferred to my new passport so i still need to keep my old pp with me when traveling in and out. My new passport has now new one page stamp stating that entry stamp has been transferred from old passport.

Previously i have just left when i was in 30 day visa exempt entry without any problems but with the one year visa i figured it might be better to transfer beforehand to avoid any possible delays at Swampy when flying out. I mean just did it in case as i had few hours to spare today.

Cost was 180 baht for taxi trips and 10 baht for copies, change of stamp free of charge. Noticed that there is parking as well although limited space. Still saw empty slots so next time will drive myself. There is also parking available around 100 or 200 meters before immigration in Suan Plu.
