Also a new bridge is planned to replace the ferry there. Various subjects about how to cross Laos=visa needed for about any westerner, and now also a good bus service via that road till China border. In fact I met 2 proper Thai/Chula students in China/Yunnan some 2 yrs ago who had come that way-overland-as their pre-graduation trip. Scroll down or use the search function.
