Sunny Valentine
Pattaya today paper printed an explanation in their last edition. Sorry I don't have the paper with me, but it went around explaining getting the terms "Visa" and "Residency" confused in translation. Makes me wonder about journalistic abilities in these papers, but why did I expect more beforehand? Sunny

manfromoz
The story goes that if you have had 3 consecutive 1 year extensions you are eligible for a 5 year extension. It is designed to streamline the application process. At present it can only be applied for in Bangkok and there is a very small window of opportunity to apply, about 2 weeks in December. It was only just introduced and the current plan is to let Pattaya Immigration issue them this December (2005) inconjunction with Bangkok. Also talk of Phuket issuing, but that is not confirmed. Someone actually made reference of it being something like a US green card. But that was just a comparision I think.

Paper that published it has already retracted it. It was a misunderstanding of the PR application process and not a visa change.
manfromoz
Big misunderstanding. Pattaya immigration confirmed it as well. Just goes to show, no-one rules change and few understand what is required at any given time.
