When doing a visa run, do you have to actually get an entrance visa to the neighboring country, go in and come back out? Or can you get your Thai exit stamp, then go around and get into the line to enter Thailand again?

Also, how much is the entry fee to Cambodia?

Yes you have to enter the other country. Immigration will not stamp you back in without entry and departure stamps for the other country.

Its about 1200 baht total to enter Cambodia.

You can find a visa run company in Bangkok that will only charge 2000 baht all inclusive for the trip.

do your visa run with one of the local providers in Thailand that do runs in/out of Cambodia, they'll take care of it all and you can just sit back and eat the cheap cookies some of them provide along with lunch. Not sure if BLS (Bangkok Legal Services) does minivan runs there but check them out.

you can do it by yourself if you want...

just take the train (3rd class) from Bangkok to Aranyaprathet at 5h55 cost 48 baht

arrive around 11h30 take a tuktuk to the border cost 60 baht

pass the thai immigration go to get your visa for Cambodia cost 20$ ( around 700 baht )

pass the cambodian immigration, stay 10 min and come back

pass the 2 immigrations, take a tuktuk (60 baht) to the train station departure 13h55, arrive Bangkok 20h

total cost around 916 baht...  (not including food, beers taxi or tuktuk from/to your place and the railway station, etc..)

Thanks for the quick replies. I had a feeling you had to go all the way into the other country, it was wishful thinking on my part. I am going to be in the border region and need to pop over to fix my visa. I screwed up when I went to Laos and came back too early. Now I need to make a run to get enough days to make it to my plane ride home.

What does the 1200 baht total include? If the visa itself is 700 as a previous poster said, what is the other 500 for?

If you do a coversion from $20 that is right but Cambodia immigration does not use the normal exchange rate. And some don't want to take the $20 or stick you for more in bahti. You can do a search of this forum for more info.

the real price of the tourist visa for Cambodia is 20$ and the business visa 25$ (valid 1 month both)

After that.. tips or overcharge are common like you said...

if you go to the Cambodian consulate, (located 2/3km before the border, 200m inside a soi) they accepted 20$ last year so.... but be aware that things change quickly !

I think if you're heading to Poipet on your own and not part of a visa run group, and the border officials don't have any idea that you're doing a visa run but think you're actually visiting Cambodia, you should be able to get by with a $20 bill.

It won't work at Ban Laem though, because no tourists enter there and all the visa applicants are part of organised visa run operations.
