Could you obtain a person's details (address etc) from their thai bank account name and account number?

if you paid money into an account for goods or services, and you were cheated, would you ave any legal rights to reclaim the money through the bank or courts?

If you could link into the bank database oe were a very good hacker. I doubt the bank would give info to a civilian, although a few baht could help.

If you pay for goods you need a contact and copy of receipt of payment, if not delivered you can pursue in court. However the courts are definitely not a good option.

I didn't know that Internet Banking here you are fully responsible for your money in the bank if you have internet banking not like the UK were if someone gets into your Account the bank refund the money in most case's.

I just joined Kasikorn last week very efficiently done in an Hour, they sent my login details a few hours later by e mail :o very secure :D

Small print state's as above :D so beware with these spam e mail's even more over here. :D

A lady I knew received insurance payout after the death of her farang husband and deposited over 5 million Baht into her Bangkok bank account.

After a month or so she started to get letters from charities canvassing for donations. When she only had a small bank balance, she did not get these letters, so is it a coincidence that they started after her balance increased so much?

The only conclusion that can be drawn is that the Bangkok Bank realeased her name and address as someone with a healthy bank balance.

So I think that the answer is yes to the OP

In Thailand everything is possible. I would say get close to one of the bankers help him by putting in some money or something and then he can help you. You will need to put some petrol in the car for the car to start running:) i hope you get that.

cheers

That's pretty worrying, as i assume that means the Banks here sell your details + bank balance...

there was a case on the news this evening .

a bank employee responsible for dealing with credit card applications was found to have sold on details of some of the applications he processed , including credit card numbers and pin numbers.

a sort of public service announcement followed this news item , telling people that anytime they provide a bank with photocopies of passports , id cards , house ownership papers etc. they should sign and date those photocopies and "cross" them in the same way that cheques used to be crossed , with a note of the specific purpose of the photocopy.

e.g. "for credit card application" " for account opening" "for money transfer" etc.

My wife is always adamant about crossing and signing all photocopies of stuff (ID card, passport,etc...).

But to me (in this day and age) it all seems a bit pointless, as i guarantee i could scan and photoshop out any cross/signature in 5 minutes.

I guess maybe it does make sense though, if you look at it from the point of view that the thieves will be more likely to steal the copies without any crosses etc...
