Calling from Thailand, I tend to use VOIPs like Skype - with which I can videoconference from my computer (audio and tv-like video) to/from theirs fpr free. If they don't have a webcam, you can call them for free on their computer using Skype. If they don't have a computer at all, you can phone them for free from your computer to their land-line; costs are very reasonable. Googling VOIP carriers should get you started.

If you don't have a computer, there are others on this forum who can help with plans and/or phone cards that are very competitive.

A Virgin mobile or landline? If it's a mobile then buy a lebara sim card for it, 4p a minute to phone a landline in Thailand and 6p to phone a mobile, if it's a landline then an 0844 number is your best bet, 1p a minute to phone landline or mobile, hope this helps.
