I heard a large amount of emergency vehicle wailing sirens so went on the roof to have a look. There is what i believe an appartment building blazing on Ekemai Soi9. I live on Ekemai soi 21 so its difficult to see exactly what is happening, but the flames were leaping high into the air. It looks now like the fire is under control, so lets hope so.

Has anyone else seen this? I think that the building is a condo and there are a number of restaurants on the ground level. There is also a petrol station opposite. Any more news?

I just got home having had dinner in Suk Soi 16 - we passed 8 emergency vehicles going the other way towards Ekkamai - the taxi driver commented that something serious had happened as he'd seen 20 emergency vehicles in the last 10 minutes.

Here's hoping all are safe.

I'm in Soi 8 Ekamai and our power has just come back on and the sirens have gone quiet - so it looks like it's under control? The sky was orange earleir tonight, but looks normal now .... but I can't see anything else.

Any more news?

I hope there's no casualties?

According to my sister in law who was at the scene, most of the buildings that were on fire are offices/shops and the people had gone home after work, so luckily it appears that there are no serious casualties. There is nothing concerning this on the Thai news at the moment, so i guess we will have to wait until the morning news for more info.

Our power also went off for about 30 min's.

LOL - it was part of my condo complex, and only one building on fire - containing a restaurant and a wedding planner.

BTW, that's between Ekamai Soi 26 and 28. Right across from the gas station.

No casualties. And likely not going to be much on the news either, though there were at least 7-8 engines here.

It looked more like Soi 18 from where i was but bins not too good after a few cold ones. The sirens seemed to go on forever, so i thought that there were a lot of emergency vehicles. The fire did look huge from my rooftop and the flames were leaping high into the air.

Anyway no casualties is good news.

LOL... it was a big fire, no question about it, though Santika was way bigger.

Fortunately, the firemen did a great job - and the external structure looks ok from where I was standing, but I haven't seen the front yet.

What is it with fire, entertainment venues and ekkamai.

June 2008 fire burns down night club close to weza.

Dec 2009 Fire burns down night club. Ooop sorry a restaurant. Forgot Santika was a restaurant.

Feb 2009 Fire b/w soi 26 and 28. Guess what? Club operates on the roof.

At least the late night traffic problems have gone. No one in there right mind would visit a club on ekkamai unless you are into suicide.
