Changing Name

Featured Replies

I put this in Family & Children

Is this Ok mods to remove it here ?

My wife changed her first name, something apparently not unusual here in Thailand.

Somebody in the same boat please ?

What about the official documents as marriage documents , passport, ...

Many thanks.

No real problems, name changes are very common and easy for Thais.

My wife changed her name back to her maiden name (we married under her divorced name). I was worried as her name is now different to that on our (UK) marriage certificate but, in reality, it's never given us serious grief.

She may or may not change her passport (up2her).

You need to maintain the paper trail so keep the name change documents and they will need translating for embassy use.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

I think it is quite easy.

I read an article in a news paper a few months ago how easy it was.

People change to lucky names all the time.

Amazingly enough (in Amazing Thailand), one can even change the birth date.

Just need a few Baht to the right person.

A lot of people here do that, in order to get some Lucky numbers attached to them.

My wife also changed her first name a few years ago, before we were married.

It's never been a problem so far. She's got a certificate showing the change and she just includes a copy of that with anything that involves her name.

Even the British Embassy seemed to know what it was, at least they didn't query it when we've applied for her tourist visas in the past.
