iPod Touch 32GB over 2000 Baht cheaper in Thailand in the Apple store than it is in Tokyo's Apple store.

That's a lot of difference percentage terms.

Unforunately I bought mine already in Tokyo....oh well.........

47,800 Yen in Tokyo = 17,327 Baht

Same product in Thailand = 15,290 Baht.

Is Thailand cheap or is the Tokyo Store stupidly expensive ? I only ask cos I was under the impression that Apple had a pretty strict policy regarding price in their stores worldwide.

Still a great product, even at Tokyo prices! :o

Thailand is pretty cheap right now because they went 1:1 with U.S. prices at some point last year, and subsequently the USD was rising against the baht.

Compare prices in the Apple store thailand - they will ship to Thailand but the prices are basically what you will get at any authorized dealer in Thailand too

Quick comparison from the Thai Apple Store to the US Apple Store on iPods and Macbooks shows that the Thai prices are higher. For example, bottom of the line Macbook is +2000 baht on the Thai site; top of the line iTouch is +900 baht or so.

The OP is comparing to Tokyo. Might have more to do with currency fluctuations with the yen. Or, the Japanese are just paying higher prices than Thais and US. But US prices are definitely lower than both, which is why I'm picking up a Macbook Air next week when I take a trip to the US.

If you bought it at the Yodobashi Camera shop, you get 15% points into your Yodobashi card. You can use the points (that are money) the next day.

That brings the price down. Replacement if something goes wrong - on the spot, within minutes, no questions asked.

For example, buy a TV and a washing machine at Yodobashi, you get enough points for a free iPod.

The catch is - to get that card, you have to apply, get it delivered to your home address in Japan (not office) after 30 days. Most of visitors and biz travellers do not stay that long and almost certainly do not have a home address in Japan.

For use in Thailand - I would always buy in Thailand. Warranty, manuals, cables.

As Nickstar pointed out, sometime last year Apple fixed prices in Thailand to match the prices in the USA based on the baht/dollar exchange rate at that time. Now that the baht is weaker, prices in Thailand are actually a few percent cheaper than in the USA if you are using USD to buy the product. But here is the real savings if you don't live in Thailand: the prices in Thailand include 7% VAT, which you can have refunded when you leave with what you bought. That makes the prices in Thailand more than 10% cheaper than they would be in the USA, which of course has always been the cheapest place to buy Apple products. Given that, Thailand is probably the cheapest place in the world to buy Apple products through authorised retailers.

<deleted> are all you guys talking about...iPod classic 120 gig is B 10k in Thailand (USD 285) and on Amazon USA it's $ 225 - about 25% MORE expensive in Thailand. There is also no sales tax for stuff bought online in USA.

I would venture that similar is true for their desktops and notebooks too.

OK, here's <deleted> we're talking about. I just bought an iMac for 41,990 baht. In USD, that's about US$1166 at today's exchange rate. The price on the Apple Store USA: US$1199. $1166 is cheaper than $1199, right? If I were able to get the VAT refunded, that would bring the price down to about $1090. That's even cheaper, right?

Sorry Bubba, but I have to disagree.

The Apple Canada store shows the Macbook 13inch at 1399.00 CDN add the 13% tax (BC) and you get $1582.00. The Thai price is B 48,900 and that is $1727.00 CDN at todays exchange rate. $141.00 cheaper in Canada

If you buy in ALTA and can get a GST rebate when you leave the country, then it is $327.00 cheaper in Canada.

Maybe some Apple products are cheaper than prices in Europe. I just happened to pop into the iStudio Apple store in Patters this morning and saw in the window a big poster advertising the fact that Thai prices were less than prices in Europe. It listed various items and compared their prices with those in Europe. There was also mention of the the VAT refund for tourist purchases. The savings on computers averaged a couple hundred Euros or maybe 10-15% over the European prices. I don't know where they were getting the Euro prices...maybe either Apple suggested retail prices or Apple Store Europe pricing.

Roos and Kiwis also tell me electronics are allot cheaper in Thailand than back home too. However, for anyone with access to American stores/online shopping, usually that's where the cheapest prices are to be found.
