Hi

A friend and colleague of mine has just had a serious motorcycle accident and she desperately needs some 'O' Negaitve blood.

If you are of this blood group please can you go and give some at the Thai International Hospital.

Thanks

Still need blood for this girl as at 3pm 26 Feb 2009.

Please phone Skye on 0812735049 if you are blood group O negative or even if you are O and don't know whether it's neg or pos and if you are in the area of Thai International Hospital they will test you.

Many thanks

Kate

I would think that O- was pretty easy to acquire in Thailand

Well you think wrong it is not and ignorant posts like yours do not help someone who is lying in a hospital bed who needs urgent help. I phoned my friend who is o- this afternoon who has gone to the hospital to donate blood.

O is the most common blood group in Thailand

and Rh- is more common in Asians than Rh+

(Strangely I am a white male that is O-)

Only about 7% of the Asian population have O- (O minus).

37% of Thais are O .... I'll go look for the Rh factor website again

Hmmm can't find a number for Rh- but it appears that George is correct in saying it is lower than Rh+ ..

I be wrong ... !!!

All i know is, 3 of the International Hospitals here on Samui have my contact details as i am O neg.

They were putting me ahead of other patients in the hospital today where i donated blood.

If anyone reading this forum is O neg, i would kindly ask that you contact any of the hospitals here on Samui and give them your contact details.

You never know when it could be u on the operating bed waiting for that bag of O neg blood.

While i don´t want to highjack an important thread, i still have to say 2 comments:

1: the hospitals on this island of mad-driving without helmets while drunk, dont keep bloodbanks of all bloodgroups??? :o

2: Is it not possible to get it fast from surathani or even Bangkok in case of emergensy? :D .

Hospitals on this island maintain the joke they always been. :D . You have a friend that need blood, try to find it on thaivisa. Or maybe tesco lotus message board..

Btw, good initiativ to try to help her out this way at least. Hope she make it.

Hello

I would just like to say how overwhelmed I was by the huge response to the frantic search yesterday for O negative blood donations. I was very reassured to see how quickly the residents and holiday makers of Samui came together in a time of crisis. So a huge thank you to anyone who donated, offered to donate, called a friend or sent an email or contributed in anyway.

THANK YOU!!!!!!

If I can just add to twisty's post that my understanding from sources close to the lady in question, that her condition is still serious, but stabilised.

Thai International would appreciate anyone prepared to give blood (of any group) to contact them and give their contact details in case of a future emergency.

Bangkok Samui Hospital also have a blood donor database which helped in this particular case at Thai Inter Hospital.

Please ring Khun Supaporn, Head of laboratory at BSH on 0869545425 if you would like to become a donor.

There were people giving blood in the middle of the shopping area in Tesco near the movie theater yesterday. It was a bit strange having people right in the hallway (albeit wide) laying down squeezing that little ball with a woman holding the bag of blood, tilting it to and fro.

By the way, aren't we to know what the accident was?

matthias i really dont know why you continue to live on samui,i dont think i have ever come across a positive thread from you when commenting on samui, why dont you just pack up and go then you will find somewhere else, and you can start complaining about all over again.

You know you dont have to read my posts right? :o

There is alot of positive things about samui. But the forum is on alot of subjects that are not working good. And naturaly so. Having a message board with people that are just happy about evererything is pointless. Its the things you are not happy with you need to discuss and try to wake up people with. No use in bringing up the things that do work and you are happy about.

But it might be getting time to do a "i love samui because..." thread again.

I am not sure as to exactly what group I am but will go down in the morning and give then a pint of whatever it is swishing around inside. :D

Does your friend have people on the island who can visit her ? I dont know how bad exactly she is but sometimes just a chat and a bangkok post can cheer a person up ? Hope she gets better soon!

Also its another reason to remind everyone to wear a helmet even when not going far!!! :o

Just a quick heads up for any other good Samaritans thinking of going to Samui Inter Hospital to donate some blood. DONT BOTHER!!!

She has been moved to Nathon. Thanks also must go to Justinsamui for letting all the good people know so as to save them a pointless journey. Cheers!

Evidently I was not the only person to go there this morning with an offer to give some blood :o

To be fair to justinnsamui, the appeal for blood did go out on the 26th Feb.

Twisty then posted on the 27th to say a big thank you to eveyone that had donated.

Operations dont normally last 4 days.

Please dont let it put you off offering blood again in the future H2o.
