I recently was granted a 1 year extention to a Non Imm O single entry Visa. Does this mean I can get an exit? (maybe wrong name) permit at BKK airport when I return to the US and return to thailand on the same visa. Does the single entry notation have any bearing any more?

You need to get a Re Entry Permit from Immigration. It cannot be done at the airport.

Single Re Entry 1,000 Baht. Multi Re Entry 3,800 Baht.

Your Visa is now finished . You have a 12 month extension of your permision to stay. The Re Entry Permit keeps your extension alive.
