Thai Work Permit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I live in England and have been offered a job in Bangkok.

The company sent me all the legal documents and job offer to me and also a copy of all documents direct to the Thai Consulate in Hull

to apply for a Non - Immigrant Type B Visa.

I have had my passport back with my Type B Visa with Multi entry.

The company have said they will apply for a Thai Work Permit when I arrive in Bangkok.

Is this right, as I know I need to be in Bangkok to sign and get passport stamped?

How straight forward is obtaining a Work Permit?

What documents will I need?

How long will it take?

Thank you very much for any help or advice anyone can give me on this matter.

Kind regards,

Ste :o

Yes, you can only apply in Thailand itself for the WP. Gettting one depends on the kind of job and how fast the company is in getting all the paperwork together. A teacher can get one in a week, while others might wait a month.

usually the Thai company will arrange a WP via a dedicated VISA/WP company. They arrange those things.

Costly but painless for you.

You'll have to sign a sh*t load of papers (like a power of attorney), but it's a good thing to get used to signing lot's of unreadable documents anyhow.

Then there will be a day that you'll go to the labour department (can be in the province, depends where you work) and pick up the WP, in my case it was 2.5 weeks.

Usually at the same time they will go back to immigration to change your visa to an extension of stay, with the same dates as your WP (they are aligned together), you go as well, say hello and show your face to the immigration officer.

Then at the same time a multiple entry visa >> don't pass on this one.

And then your all done..... pretty painless.

I wish you good luck if you have to do it yourself though..... :-(
