This issue (fraud attempt) is known for a while, since October last year I guess. There's more behind.

I strongly advise recipients of such mail to change their password immediately!

Why should they need to change their password just because they get a phishing mail? That makes no sense.... unless of course someone is naive enough to reply with the username and password. Regardless of anything, NEVER give out your password. It's that simple.

My advise was a precautioning only. To change a password is an easy thing. Like you should change your ATM pin code on a regular base, or your online banking password, the same should apply to email.

Google is not a fortress and I trust this forum is not only visited by the registered users but thousands of visitors. And I trust there are many who don't know about danger and trouble something like that can cause. IMHO...

i dont change passwords, I have a 12 character, random "strong" password saved into Roboform and don't have any need to change password again, and i use HTTPS when logging in.
