I've just had a oral examination and need a lot of work doing.

If you are a patient or have been in the past I would be very graetful if

You could recommend me dentist that you personally have had treatment

With, preferably who has plenty of experience in his/her field.

I need to have several fillings a bridge, and a implant.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I had full upper dental implants done at Silom Dental and highly recommend them. The service was very professional, the work was outstanding, and the price was very reasonable. They are about 100m from Chong Nonsi BTS station. You can find them at www.silomdental.com.

One day, just before an appointment, I lost my wallet and didn't discover this until time to pay on the way out. Not only did they tell me that I could pay next time but lend me THB 500 to get me back to my hotel and have dinner that night. Fortunately for me, the wallet had come out in a taxi and the driver was so honest he turned it in. It had about THB 8,000 in cash plus my credit cards. The next day I contacted the driver and gave him THB 4000 reward.

I go to the Bangkok Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit Soi 49 for all my dental needs, they offer the ful range of services and specialists.

Neither the most nor the least expensive, but consistenmtly high quality.

Some info that might help those unfortunate enough to need dental treatment:

Broke a tooth at gun level last week and yeaterday went to PramonkutKlow hospital where I am already a patient to see what the dantal Dept could do. They did an exam and x ray and I needed root canal work then a crown made, then I talked to one of the specialists who makes the teeth (crown) and she said they had a backlog of over a years work so if I wanted it done quickly I should go to Mahidol accross the road. Cost so far 130b for x ray nothing for consultation and exam.

So off I toddled accross the street and registered as a patient at the Mahidol Dental Dept which wasnt easy to find, had to ask directions several times. Got there about 11.30 and had all my details put in a green folder including the X ray from accross the road. Was told come back after 1pm, very civilised they are, knock off from 12 to 1 for lunch.

Back at 1 after a good feed at their Caff a floor below the dental dept and a good look round, waited for 2 hours for my name to be called, place was pretty crowded, they put through a huge number of patients. The surgery is open plan with over 20 chairs and there looked to be about 20 dentists working.

The dentist who I was assigned had a look and told me what I already knew that I need root canal work then a crown made and fitted. I would need 2 root canal treatments then the new tooth could be made. I had expected an exam and an appointment but he started treatment right away drilling out the tooth, very small injection, no pain and only local knumbness, very different from previous dental injections I have had that seemed to use a needle about a foot long that left the mouth and face unusable for several hours.

Did another x ray to see of he had got everything out but there was still some stuff to be removed at the bottom, said I had an unusually long root canal, after more drilling and scratching he filled the hole with concrete or something, made out the bill and gave me another appointment for 2 weeks time when he will complete the root canal work and refer me to 'them who makes the crowns'.

He estimated the cost at 3000b for root canal work and 10,000b for the crown, more than I had hoped but still reasonable

His bill for the work done 1600B, he had good english and appeared very propessional.

Will continue after the next treatment on the 31st

I went to the Dental Hospital on Sukhumvit Soi 49 in 2002 after not visiting a dentist for fifteen years.

I had fifteen different procedures performed over nine visits, mostly fillings.

The service was fabulous: almost painless, very thorough and performed in a spotless clinic.

It cost me about 35,000 baht but it was worth every satang. My teeth were saved at a fraction of the cost of what it would have cost at home in Australia.

Very attentive staff, mostly of them very fluent in English, pleasant atmosphere and all up a good experience.

Four-and-a-half stars.

I've since had crowns done by an excellent dentist in Pattaya, but that's another story.

Mahidol is close to Victory Monument, about 3 or 400 m, name of the road is Tanon Lat wit tee, hope I have spelt that right. it is on the left hand side of the road walking away from VM there is a SCB bank in front and a new building being erected on the VM side. There are many hospitals on the same road, childrens, dermatology, military on the other side with nursing and medical schools.

since we're at the topic, does anyone know which dental center is good for most extensive stuff like jaw/chin surgery? I have a chin that's too large that i want to reduce, am wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of the clinics mentioned that are good with bone work.

  • 2 weeks later...

Will carry on where I left off on my first post:

Went back to Mahidol to complete root canal treatment, had an appointment for 11.30, got there at 11 and my name was called at 11.20.

Same dentist drilled out the tooth and sent me for an x ray then did some more drilling and scratching, said the two roots of the tooth were joined at the bottom and this made it difficult.

Tooth was filled then another x ray to check it was properly filled, out of there at 11.55 cost this time 2160B

Have an appointment with the tooth maker or tooth fairy whatever they are called on the 16th. will carry on after that.

Counted 22 dentists working, might of missed some.

I began going to Mahidol Dental about 12 years ago and still have the same dentist, even tho I left the country for four years. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. The cost is exceptionally reasonable but that's not why I go there -- I could go anywhere and my company medical insurance would cover. It's because the dentists are exceptionally good and don't over service, as is my experience of private dental clinics here. My daughter, aged 11, has been going there since she was less than a year, when we first took her for familiarization visits, and she still has the same pediatric dentist. Husband, too, is a client.

The link from my earlier posting on the topic refered to above: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Dentist-Hosp...l&p=1402784 appears to be broken, so click here for map and contact details: http://www.dt.mahidol.ac.th/en/maps.html

The location is 6 Yothi Road, Rachathevee , Bangkok 10400, nearby Victory Monument skytrain and accessible from Rama VI Rd. The hospital is part of the Mahidol University, so there is no commercial interest on the part of the dentists to make money from your mouth. Many of the dentists are professors and also have their own private practices.

If you prefer somewhere more commercial and are in a hurry, I can suggest http://www.bangkokdentalcenter.com/ , which caters to foreign visitors wanting extensive and fast treatment.

I give my vote to the dental hospital on suk 49......for fillings you can go to see Dr. Sirivimol.....she is just great...works on wed. and sundays only. For any type of bridge or crown work I found Dr. Morokot to be very good as well. My father is a dentist in the US and said all the work they had done was good. For sure not cheap but I look for good quality work and not the cheapest price when it comes to health or dental care.

I just had 4 filling done at dental hospital suk 49....4000 baht for all 4....also took my son for a filling and it was 1000 baht. So I am not sure how you got charged 5000...they do have a price list there of all their services. I always find it best to ask how much before I get any type of work done here. Then no surprises later on

My technique for having work done is to have something minor done by the dentist first and then see how that goes. If the price is reasonable and the work good I will have more work done at that location - this assumes you live in the Kingdom and have the time to do this. Modern injection techniques do seem painless and very localized and I was quite shocked at how painless a tooth extraction was (compared to the bad old days in the UK) at one Chiang Mai dentist (Chiang Mai Dental Hospital) and went on to have quite a bit of work done there. The only thing I did not like was that they sent the crowns out to be manufactured rather than doing them on-site which would have been a same day procedure and not need temporary crowns which were nasty to remove.
