Former Thailand Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra postponed his court hearing on allegedly violating Section 112 of the Criminal Law, also known as the lese majeste law, scheduled for today, citing a Covid-19 infection. The Attorney General’s Office (AGO) rescheduled the hearing for June 18.

The 74 year old former politician was accused of violating Section 112 during an interview with South Korean reporters in Seoul on May 21, 2015. Additionally, Thaksin was accused of importing information into a computer system that could defame, insult, or show malice towards the Thai royal family.

The former PM denied all allegations and requested a further investigation into the case. The AGO investigated the accusations further and agreed to indict Thaksin. The court appointed the next hearing for today, May 29.

Thaksin urged his lawyer to submit a request to postpone the hearing yesterday, May 28, claiming he was suffering from Covid. The document also included medical confirmation of the infection from the hospital.

AGO Chief Prosecutor Wiphut Boonprasart revealed in a press conference at 9am today that Thaksin requested the AGO to postpone the hearing until June 25 but the AGO decided to reschedule it to June 18 because the doctor suggested Thaksin rest for observation until June 3 only.

Thaksin’s lawyer, Winyan Chartmontri, revealed in an interview with BangkokBiz News today that Thaksin is ready to go through the justice proceedings and prove his innocence and his intentions when talking about the royal family of Thailand in the interview.

Winyan emphasised that Thaksin is now suffering from Covid and might have been exposed to it when he met many residents in the Isaan province of Nakhon Ratchasima on May 25.

Winyan insisted that the illness was unexpected. He added that Thaksin had a fever of 38 degrees Celsius and a sore throat yesterday. Winyan said he talked with Thaksin via phone and found the former PM had a hoarse voice.

Winyan stated that he could not confirm whether Thaksin would be able to appear on June 18 or not. If he does, the first thing he will do is submit a bail request.

I'm not talking about Thaksin here more to the point of "importing information into a computer system that could defame, insult, or show malice towards the Thai royal family." I'm gussing importing in this sense mean downloading. This is very concerning and stinks of an autocratic system and a freedom of interpretation when prosecuting under the weaponised Section 112.

hahahahaha, everytime this scum bag pathetic excuse for a man faces legal action he suddenly gets sick and is unable to face court, everyone knows it is a total load of BS as it is his way to avoid facing his charges, really does show exactly how his party works. Have to wonder if he will start wearing his neck brace and be in a wheel chair next, he has been healthy enough to travel all over Thailand and have meetings after being soooo sick during his trial, this man is a joke, box head thaksin is showing just how much of a coward he really is, too scared to face justice, we see anyone else that has done this jailed for it, they are even trying to get rid of  move forward  but they will try to claim he has done nothing wrong, wonder how many cake boxes it will take this time.

HE postponed the court hearing? What the actual F! Let's hope the covid infection isn't trivial. All this crying wolf is going to come back at him. But if he does actually die, then we will all know that he really was sick.

They held the threat of this charge over his head when he came back to get him to behave. Didn't work, so I guess he figures he has enough clout to take them on.

Covid only last 1-2 weeks.. They should reschedule it as fast as possible. Also, he is still on probation. Why hasn't a probation officer come to check on his health. Where is the doctors report from a hospital stating testing positive for Covid.

Does this article mean that if i am scheduled to go to court. That my lawyer can make any unproven excuse to change the court date?

And I suppose having a video link is too advanced for Thailand?

We all know that already. It is what it is. Put up with it, or go away.

He won't be going anywhere near a court. He's not in Thailand anymore.

The Circus continues, P.T. Barnum's got nothing on these guys.

He'll not run away this time.

There may even be a groundswell of support for him that may be the start of some real reforms.

It certainly looks like they kept these charges back so that they can hold them over him in case he started to become a nuisance again.

Well guess what? He's becoming a nuisance again, as predicted.

Poor guy, he always feels sick when he has to stand up for himself:cheesy:

Last I checked there isn't all that much support for Pheu Thai, let alone Thaksin.

Yes indeed. He figured that previously, but then skulked off to Dubai.

But there is a lot of support for reform, which was my point.
