What's Up With Those Nanny Agencies ?

Sorry if the following is a little messed up but your servant is thoroughly wasted after an unsavvy mix of Royal Saluts ( hmmm.. ) and Champagne in TG first Class Lounge... the first good news of the evening, in those very dire times a surprised upgrade upon check in in J was most welcome... than ordered the first drink and turned on the laptop and learned from my lawyer that the expertise for which I'm flying tonight to Paris is put off... fark... I'll make sure to putt it off until June than...more Champagne and whiskey...

Back to the topic... what's up with those nanny agencies?? Fired our burmese nanny upon coming back to Thailand a few days ago than saturday started looking for a new one.. sexy new secretary called a bunch of agencies and gave my mobile numbe than the mamasans or whatever they should be called started phoning me... accepted the first one, a fat but decent looking young girl who didn't show up on her first day work... agency sent in some replacement...argh!! Some character from hel_l obviously brought to this earth via Planet Lao wearing a ton of ugly make up and arboring a skin so bad and a style so rude even an old and aids ridden sukkhumvit transexual would be ashamed... I understood later they thought the farang daddy would bite in... fark them !?! I call the pimp and said no made up ho' for my baby! No way!

In the meantime found another burmese maid but on monday morning she seemed to have troubles when she went to her previous boss to collect her belongings.. couldn't make it on time either... I know Babe.. it sucks to be a refugee in a third world shithole... I favour burmese over thais though and keep on looking this way...

Anyway, the first mama called me a couple of times today... then it becomes hilarious, she says she has " deck may, narak, ayou yipsii, piu khao" (a new girl, 24y o, cute, white skin) . LMAO! I see she finally got my taste right but is she offering a nanny or a bit of fun for hungry daddy ? I know it's standard back home to have the dad srew the baby sitter but if it's really an escort service for men with Missus at home they deserve all our encouragment but could at least maintain a proper website with pics of the birds... what gives ??

Than the Mama sounded totally disoriented when I told her I was leaving tonight to Europe and the nanny should meet my wife tomorrow... really expected her to tell me she didn't do lesbian, but she just paused... than paused longer...lol!

Anyway it's getting late plane is about to go and obviously I went for a burmese again. Burma rocks! Just watch out for western democratic influences !

Lol! Perhaps a good thing I was rushed by the plane leaving soon when typing... anyway do you know of less dodgy agencies ? Thai kids home is apparently out of nannies and I definetely wouldn't trust Bangkok Nursing home , and whatever the name of the agency who sent us 2 girls already . Burmese supply looks more challenging than expected as well. Might not have been such a good idea to fire our nanny a few days ago...

9000 basic plus 400~500/sunday

Agencies are quoting 8 to 15000 per month, we used to pay 10K and some thai friends reckoned we were insane.

Paid the nanny I've just fired 8k for live in work and the new one 8k, live out abt 52hours per week.

8 to 10k seems to be considered a good salary for burmese nannies, hence if you offer that kind of money ask another burmese working with some family around and she will find a few volonteers willing to leave their current position.

LOLed very hard at your initial post, classic! Now I know a nanny agency isn't necessarily the solution either... we have been looking locally, the first one left because she got pregnant, #2 was great but didn't show up most days (and was surprised when she got fired... ). #3 was great in the beginning but then turned into an alcoholic and is now useless, seems to have drinking binges with her dodgy half-her-age boyfriend every night.

If you are a Farang, forget trying to employ a live in Nanny/housekeeper in Thailand, whether they are Thai or Burmese, it doesn’t work.

My wife and I decided to hire a live in lady housekeeper. Offering good wages, 9000 baht per month plus food, use of computer, days off on top.

The job involved some light house cleaning and looking after the home, 2 dogs if we stayed away for a few days.

So I advertised in the job centre at Mai Rim Chiang Mai and in a Chiang Mai local Thai newspaper.

My wife was receiving scores of phone calls per day as a result of the ads.

Women from ages 17 to 60 were phoning for the job, plus ladyboys, gays, and guys offering girls they have on their lists. Also girls asking if they could bring their children, mother’s and siblings. When my wife told them they would be working for me, a Farang, than the situation changed. Many were asking up to 20000 baht per month for live in. The younger the woman, the higher the wages. None of them had any doable checkable backgrounds or references.

Some of them were really bar girls looking for an assignment because business is down in the town. Others were from poor backgrounds encouraged by their parents or boyfriends to apply for the job, plus educated girls from middleclass families seeking any Farang to support them in a lifestyle they are used to. Most only interested in short time work, although they understood I required someone here long term. It was a ploy to get a lot of money quickly from some gullible Farang.

After interviewing about 50, we took on 2 girls, one after the other, not together. Both tried it on for money, the, my mother has had a motorbike accident, sick buffalo etc and when It became clear that I was not falling for this, they soon became bored. One left on her own accord, the other I had to throw out after I saw her throwing a large boulder at my dog. That was scary, she actually held a knife up to me and kept nagging for money, although she had already been paid her wages up to the time I wanted her to go. In the end I had to give her an extra 3000 baht so as to make her leave peacefully.

Also worth keeping in mind: I was advised by my brother in law, who is a Thai lawyer, that there is a scam in which some girls who have police contacts, could say that the Farang touched them and threaten to report this to the police unless a lot of money changes hands, plus some have diseases such as AIDs and TB.

Not worth the risk and hassle or if you do decided to take on one of these girls, ensure she is well recommended and has some sort of references.

Of course we are going to hear of some success stories, but at these times of economic crisis, taking a complete stranger into the home is a dangerous practise, especially if it involves caring for young children or pets.

I have had 3 maids plus a sister working for us over the years.

Wife selects them so they are all ugly.

No1 Was OK last 3 months from Burma, she had to be told what to do, never did the cooking the missus does that, only ironing and general cleaning rate 5000K a month left after 3 months.

No2 Was an old Thai lady she used to get up at 5 am to wash the floors I always thought there was a burgarlar was in the house she left after 3 months

No3 Was Burmesse the missus never trusted her at all and if we were out we had to have the misus Dad take care of the house, she was always on the telephone to her bf she lasted 3 months.

A footnote to this is I usualy came home every 3 months and they left shortly afterwards not sure if I was to blame.

Lastly was missus sister, managed to get her salary increased to 6,000 a month she lasted well alothugh it was like eggshells if she never did something correct I would have to diplometically highlight to the missus.

She was on a home visit fell pregnant with her husband and that was the end of that she lasted the longest about 6 months.

Missus tried to get her back, even so she was still pregnant but I put my foot down on that.

I have now decided that we are doing without, so no more politics within the household.

Some update, actually we've been through a couple of nannies since the OP, all found through other burmese maids working in the compound, and at the moment have one who only comes after 5pm and sometimes on week end, she mostly shops for our groceries, cooks , iron , does some extra cleaning the staff from the serviced apartment don't take good enough care of and only spends little time with our daughter . An arrangement I would have been scared of a few months ago but this life without nanny taking care full time of the baby did the family a lot of good, mother who saw her professionnal and social life losing much of its intensity when we moved to Thailand is happily busy spending more time with our daughter and this can be only good for the said daughter, plus we send her to a nursery, where her time is probably better spent than with her illiterate nannies.
