Where Is A Good Ao-nang Burger?

Captain Haddock

Recommended Posts

I went to Ao-Nang the other night, and saw a 24 hour Bugger King. So I popped in for a burger, about 10pm, and got a take away. Much to my disappointment, when I tasted it I found it had been reheated in a microwave! So much for BK making fresh burgers at the 24 hour gaff!

Maybe you regulars in the area already knew this, but heads up for anyone else - make sure you check your food before leaving!

Any ideas where else in the area does a good burger?

Please,if you want to eat garbage farang food, return to your own country,it's very difficult as it is to find good thai food in ao-nang due to all the over priced farang restauants. why do so many farangs come to thailand and then want to change things?

I don't know anywhere here that does a good burger. Pams english pub/bar is the best i know.

The "bar boy" of Ao Nang returns.......I have missed your in depth bar reports lately...... too much time on the golf course natty?

Hows that handicap coming on? :o

Its not difficult to find good, cheap, local thai food in ao nang you muppett.

....and if you don't like the Farang restaurants in ao nang , no one is forcing you to stay.

sorry mate, but when i first came to ao-nang 22 years ago, there were no farang restaurant, but

i repeat again, now ao-nang only has high priced 2nd rate thai restauants, but plenty of garbage farang food catering mostly for the fatties.

Actually I concur, simplistically, westerners decide to move here, introduce their cultures and habits and then seek to change the country they have moved to to suit thier own insecurities and inabilities to interact with the new lifestyle. Probably the guy who is near single figures probably means per hole!

you're right i did make it up about my handicap, just to impress.

But there are some great thai restaurants in Ao Nang, and also there are some dreadful ones.

Ao Nang is now a tourist destination...what do you expect.

There are also plenty of westerners here that work, socialize and add to the thai community......

Here's one for you ...

If you could get rid of one thing in Ao Nang....what would it be???

easy matt, farangs who want to change ao-nang,into their own country,

here's one for you....

i came to thailand(ao-nang) for the weather, food, smiling happy people icon1.gif and to join in the thai way of life,at least as much as a farang can. somethings i do not like e.g driving on the roads, police, corruption, etc but these are not for me to change, that's for the thai's to do.

i left the uk ,fed up with it's yob culture, supporting a benifit system that seems to reward cheats and lastly having to listen to foreigners wanting to undermine the remaining english culture,so why would i try to change thailand.

matt, can you please tell me why did you come to live in thailand, and not remain in you'r own country icon14.gif

Wow nontabury, for a newbie you've got quite the chip on your shoulder huh?

"why do so many farangs come to thailand and then want to change things?"

So am I understanding that you believe the Mcdonalds and Burger Kings are established by farangs? Hmmmm..........I think if you were to investigate company ownership on those franchises you might be surprised.

Regarding the topic of farangs wanting to eat at BK, I got barbecued on this forum for saying just about the same thing, people's points were if they come here on vacation, they should be entitled to eat whatever they want. I agree with that. Although they miss out on good local cuisine by eating that fast food garbage they eat at home. But to each their own.

For Ao Nang cheap eats, next to the police booth at the beach is a Thai stand. I eat pad thai there, a whopper (get the double etendre?) of a plate for 30thb. Also, out front of the minimart next to RCA is a noodle soup cart guy, 35thb for nice geow teow.

OP, I apologize, I've never looked for a burger in Ao Nang.

yes i agree with what you say, the point i was trying to make, not as a newbie but as someone who has seen many changes in ao-nang over the last 20yrs+, is that these changes have occured because a few greedy selfish people(mostly thai, indian)have thought about only one thing .money.

Look at the blocks along the McDon stretch,no thought other then profit has been put into these developments, they could be anywhere in the world.

Why are the restauants so expensive in ao-nang?,one reason is because of the high rents charged by the above.while the workers in these same establishment receive just a small wage.

At the end of the day have these changes improved ao-nang.what do you think.

I agree, not improvements and you're right it's all about money.

If people coming to Thailand want a BK burger than that's what the businessman saw and put in a BK.....

Even though small wage, those are jobs for people so we have two sides of the coin.

Ao Nang Beach Road is for the tourist stroll so of course the businesses there will cater to that. Lets hope Napparat doesn't go the same route.

Well i agree about Nopharatara but unfortunately if the tourists are there, along will come the business's.

Lets just hope the shop houses don't turn up on Nopharatara beach road. Hopefully the land is too expensive, and the owners don't like shop houses.

Back on topic, I'm not opposed to an occasional good burger. Not too often as I have always had a bit of a weight problem (beer might have something to do with that).

I have to be in Ao Nang for business April 6-9, I'll search around, and anyone on the forum here that would like to join me for the "Ao Nang best burger hunt", I'm happy to have along. No fast food though, (other than chao pad).

Blimey, it's been too long since i checked the Krabi Forum - seems like a fair bit of mud slinging has been going off!

I feel a little scared to post an opinion on this.

Screw it, Nontabury - fancy a BK? I'm buying...

Last night had a burger at O'Malleys. TERRIBLE. I'll never go there again because not only was the burger a microwaved piece of cr*p but because they were dinging me 100thb for sangsom and soda. Usually a 50thb drink.

mr_lob, I don't see the mudslinging you are referring to(?)....

Wow, lots of bitter folks in Ao Nang! Can't a guy put in a request for a decent burger without being pilloried as a culturally insensitive barbarian? :)

OP - Burger King ALWAYS microwaves their burgers, even back in Farangland. They grill a bunch of them at once and then store them in a warmer until it's time to nuke it and serve it to you 'fresh'. The one you got most likely seemed more obvious than others you may have had previously because it had probably been in the warmer for hours. :D

Why do you say "bitter folks"? The bottom line is there is not a good burger in Ao Nang and you're best off eating some pad gpao.

That's my point Huggy, How do you know what I am better off eating. It's great to make a suggestion but when posters are insistent they know what is best for the OP it becomes less of a forum and more of a soapbox. :D

The OP is just looking for a decent burger but he is subjected to a rant about commercialism and cultural insensitivity.

The OP didn't ask for a Burger King or a McDonalds or an Italian Pizza joint to be built in AoNang - why is he being held accountable for the alleged capitalist sins they represent? I'd wager all those businesses are Thai owned and operated, yet there is no uproar over the abuse of Thai culture by those Thais themselves.

Yes, yes, I know, if it was not for tourists there would be no reason for any of those farang chains, but at the same time if it was not for tourists AoNang would still be a fishing village.

Personally I think it's a dam_n shame the way fast food chains (and convenience stores) have blossomed all over the world like a rampant fungus, but that's not what I'm defending.

I live on an island where I eat rice and salted fish every day. On the rare occasion when I do get to Krabi or AoNang I like to go to get some greasy farang crap food and it's nobody's business to tell me that I shouldn't. Especially when didn't ask for your opinion of the political ramifications of my choices!

All in good fun - flame away! :D

And the point I am making is no one here is telling you what to eat.

The thread starts off asking where there is a good burger in Ao Nang. I am not clear on where you understand people are saying you can't have a microwaved BK burger if you want. Knock yourself out cardiac kid.

I'm just saying I haven't found a good burger in Ao Nang so I tend to eat the local food at the stalls up the street and across from McD's where the pad gpao is good.

To each their own......

Try the A1, not far up the road from the luna bar (locally known as loony bar), good burgers & pizzas there right on the sea front plus good brekkies all at a reasonable price!

Say what you want about Burger King. I happen to like their burgers. HOWEVER, The Ao Nang Burger King does stink and I believe they were/are selling microwaved sandwiches. I believe that Burger King would pull their franchise if they knew what the Ao Nang outlet was selling.
