First Entry On An Oa (m) Visa

Featured Replies

Hello All, there have been numerous useful and informative posts about extensions/expiry of OA visas and re-entry permits that have made me rethink my situation. However, I haven't seen my specific issue addressed and the answer(s) could become useful as a reference for others who may find themselves in a similar situation.

I have a new (unused) OA multiple entry visa valid for entry berfore 8th March 2010 in a new (unused) passport. I also have my old passport which only expires in December 2009 (yes, it's all quite legal).

I am visiting Thailand next week but just for a month and I return to South Africa on 24th April. I intend returning to Thailand on a permanent basis around August 2009.

Should I come in on a standard airport-issued 30 day tourist visa or immediately use my OA (M) visa - what are the pros and cons?

Regards, John.

I would use the old passport and 30 day stamp as you will have ticket out so travel is not a problem for visa exempt issue. Saves a page or so in the new passport.

When you return in August you will get a 12 month permision to stay stamp. Do a border run just before 8th March 2010 and you will get another 12 months stamp.

Thanks so much for the advice (from Lopburi3 too) - I really appreciate it.
