Jai Dee Posted March 25, 2009 Share Posted March 25, 2009 Cabinet gives green light to designate Pattaya as special tourism zone The Cabinet has approved the designation of Pattaya and the adjacent areas as special tourism zones according to the Ministry of Sports and Tourism's proposal. Deputy government spokesman Suphalak Khuanha stated that the ministry has assigned the Designated Area for Sustainable Tourism Administration to draft the administrative plan for the development of the designated zones in accordance with the government's policy on domestic tourism development. Mr Suphalak said Pattaya City drew 4.48 million foreign tourists and generated the revenue of 60 billion baht or 10 percent of the national domestic tourism revenue in 2007. It was expected that the city would generate the annual revenue amounting to 300 billion baht in 2017 if it was well managed. I think you got it on the first try, sir. Wouldn't that be so much more convenient for the Bangkok upper crust than driving all the way to Cambo? And they could rationalize it to the nation by saying it's only there for the convenience of the tourists?
