I have tried to get a safety deposit box at several banks and I cannot even get on a waiting list. Does anyone have one and how long or difficult was it for you to get it ??

My apt was burglarized over the holiday even with building security and I'd like to be sure about some possesions and my Passport.

That might not be such a good idea for your passport (which you are supposed to have immediate access to at police request). If you are in detention how do you get it?

Have seen people post about private safe deposit facilities at some buildings in Bangkok - believe all banks are fully booked - this is a hide the cash place.

I am sure I read somewhere about one of the major couriers like UPS,DHL etc, offering mail boxes for rent...might be worth giving them a call to see if they can help.
