Tourist Visa/ Re-entry Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi!

Going to Thailand this summer, I am aware that I will need a tourist visa. I will be in Thailand for approx 8 days before i move onto laos for just 3 days before I go back Thailand for approx 25-35 days. Can anyone tell me what kind visa I will need? Is there a sixty day visa that will cover me? How much will it cost?

Thank you,

Kevin

There is a sixty day Tourist Visa.1,000 Baht fee. However when you enter Laos the Visa will become void unless you have a Re Entry Permit. This is obtainable from Immigration at a cost of 1,000 Baht.

If you were entering and returning to/from Laos by air and had your ticket booked in advance you would not need a Visa if your second stay in Thailand was less than 30 days.

You need an exit ticket from Thailand within 30 days if arriving without a Visa. When returning to Thailand from Laos by air you will recieve a 30 day permision to stay.

Entering Thailand by land you only get 15 days.

Your best option is to obtain a two entry tourist visa. Use the first for your eight weeks in Thailand (remember for planning that it is a 60 day stay with day 1 being arrival); make your travel to Laos for 3 (or more - Luang Prabang is probably worth several days); then return to Thailand using the second entry of your tourist visa (another 60 day stamp). The visa cost is determined by the country you obtain it in (local currency) but will be about 1,000 baht each entry. But free if obtained prior to June 4.

Yes. That is another option. Double Entry Tourist Visa. 2,000 Baht or equivalant. Or free before June 4th as Lopburi says. Just seems a shame to use a 60 day entry for just 8 days.

I read his post as 8 weeks rather than 8 days - brain dead! :o

Thanks for your reply. Will our tourist visa be easy to get? and am I right when I say that it must be obtained before we go otherwise we will be denied entry? Also when would be getting our re-entry permitt? When we arrive or when we leave?

Thank you

Sorry I'm completely new to all this,

You will need the Visa before you leave or you might not be allowed on the flight. You will have no problems getting Visas.

The Re Enry Permit (if you are going down this route) can be got from Immigration in Thailand before you leave for Laos.

Here is the website for the Royal Thai Consulate Dublin http://www.thaiconsulateireland.com/

As Lopburi said earlier, you might find it easier to get a 2 Entry Tourist Visa before you come and save the bother of getting the Re Entry Permit.

Your problem is that your travel plans do not lend themselves to a cost afective Visa plan.

You need a Visa because you are staying more than 30 days. When you return from Laos you will only get a 15 day entry stamp which is not long enough for your second stay in Thailand.
