My wife is mad keen on purchasing a new step-thru, although we dont exactly need 1 @ this point in time(not retired & living in L.O.S. just yet) she is paying a good portion of it so it looks like it's on. The traditional honda 90 step-thru with basket, so we both can use it was my idea, or is yamaha a better option, do you have to run engine in ? can I buy manual in english so I can maintain it.

open to ideas & suggestions.

kind regards songkhlasid.

One suggestion is to place this in the 'Motobikes in Thailand' forum instead of this car forum.

Honda 125i wave.. Dont question it.. Just buy and forget.

Seconded. I have this bike. You don't need an english manual because you don't need to maintain it - it just works. Do an oil change every now and then at the local shop for the price of the oil (90 baht) and it will be happy.

I have had it for 4 years and it didn't have a single problem. It just runs. I think it will do for the next 10 years too. Don't need to break in, really.

Get her a Honda Wave Injection, not worth the trouble of doing the maintaince yourself as is so cheap to have it done at the dealer.

Depending on use , 2 riders and your body weight get a 110cc or 125cc.

Get a Injection as this is the new version of Honda Wave.

Make sure to select a bike that has at least 1 disk brake as I had a drum brake only version before and thats was a mistake !

(yes they do have drum brake only version).

Electric starter is a nice option...

If you want a full automatic go for a Fino instead of the half automatic Honda Wave.

Changing gear on a Wave is something I never could get the hang of.

I replaced my Wave 125 with a Honda Sonic but that less suitable for shopping.

i gave my gf the downpayment to buy a click this last weekend...she came back with a wave instead to save money (good girl), i took two rides on it....then went back to the dealer and exchanged for a click the next day.

the click imo is a safer bike for female riders do to its simplicity, not to mention it is faster, smoother and better looking than the wave... if she wasn't so set on the click i would have gotten her an Icon instead.

the rear brake on the click can be hand adjusted very easily...

Have a Wave 125i now and had a Dream 125 before. Dream 125 was a much better bike. Lasted better, much better, and always seemed to have more guts than the wave! After 30,000 km the Dream still felt new, after 10,000 the Wave felt like it had 40,000 on the clock! Only draw back with the Dream was no under seat storage.

Also look at the Yamaha Nouvo, borrowed my friends last week to go to Samui. Excellent bike, rock steady, quiet and gutsy. Would take that over the Wave any day! 110 km/h on the Nouvo felt like 70 on the Wave!

Your kidding right ??

no, im serious, the wave just makes alot of noise, but doesnt seem to go, the click may seem to be gutless because it is so much more quiet and smooth but it is indeed faster. In my opinion there is no comparison between the two.

Mate. My misses rents bikes.. Theres a fleet of them out there.. And I am a 110kg guy who lives near really steep hills.. Its very easy to see which ones have power and which dont..

Click is low geared.. it accelerates well but tops out fast.. Same same the airblade.. The nuovo is a bit longer, has a better top end.. Dreams have some torque but lack the hp of the wave..bt the wave pulls fine uphills and top end.. Only have one scooter faster than the waves and thats a old old cheer, which had a bore put on it when it needed a engine job not to be a racer.. Anyway that thing has >60,000 kms and still outpulls every other model and make even ones in thier first few 1000 of life. Just an absolute truck.

Just look at hp figures for click / nuovo and waves.. Then subtract the drivetrain loss for the autos.. Clear winner.

I have for semi-geared and automatics a top 3 list of what I would recommend.

Semi-geared;

1) Honda Wave 125i

2) Honda Wave 110i

3) Honda CZ-i 110

Automatics (CVT)

1) Suzuki Skydrive 125i

2) Honda AirBlade 110i

3) Honda Click-i

If the semi-geared underbody bikes where a top 5 it probably will include a few other manufactures, so I love the ride of the Kawasaki ZX130 and buying a Tiger CX135 is not that crazy anymore.

The Honda Wave 125i is an excellent choice, still not overlook the 110cc models. In low and mid-range performance the 110 and 125cc are similar only at higher speeds or with higher load you will notice the difference.

One of the good ones I agree..

I think I come under the 'higher load' category :o

They both have 100cc engines

Ive had no problem climbing hills of around 22.5 degrees steep accelerated to the top without bogging, well thats the steepest incline ive had to climb so far, and the click handled it well...and this was a dirt path with ruts and alot ofgravel.

But im sticking with my recommendation of the click, since it is so easy to ride especially for a girl, the waves clutchless engine can cause an unexperienced rider to slide the back tire during hard downshifts in wet weather...god forbid downhill in morning dew with light grains of sand on the road.

The clicks rear brake in conjunction with combirake, is easily adjusted by the twist of the rear brake nut on the drum arm, with your fingers. As a matter of fact the evening before i adjusted the rear brake to be stronger, then she tells me while she was riding later on she almost slammed into a car. If i didnt adjust the brake beforehand, she might be a little flatter.

The click reaches 100 kph easily on flat ground, on a hilly road over 30 degree inclines the wave may prove better since you can change the gearing, but lack of clutch will prove no better than a full auto when you start sliding backwards from climbing too steep a hill.

But for city driving with moderate hills the wave is no comparison to the click in simplicity, smoothness, quietness or acceleration.

The acceleration of the click is faster than the wave...hands down...but is quieter, so it does not seem that way.

The waves vibrate like mad and shake at high speeds.

I rented a carbureted click for 5 days. Then she got a new wave, and I took it back for a new fuel injection click. The new fuel injected version doesnt seem to have very noticeable gains over the carbureted one. Except in the top end, the power doesnt taper off as quickly as the carbureted version.

But right now the bike is only 3 days old.

You're looking for a scooter and not a motorbike I see...

My wife had the Wave 110 older model, and it was a good scooter, she did 54,000,- Km on it without one single engine problem then sold it, and it still runs in the neighborhood.

However then she bought a Fino because they were chick and she did not like that thing a single bit, and after Allan wrecked her Fino on Bira we bought her a Honda CZ-i which is the very same reliable 110cc engine but with fuel injection and approved for gasohol, and by far the best scooter she ever had, it's as fast as the 125, and the engine will run forever, great scooter.

Cheers Bard

Sorry Sinewave,

All Honda engines now-a-day are 110cc or 125cc ...

The 110cc Honda CZ-i and Honda Wave 110i need extra care for fuel consumption, this little bikes can be used so long on a single tank, that you completely forget that it sometimes needs a refill....

Sheesh details...100-110cc...whats the diference?

If you really want to get technical the click is 108cc...the same size as the airblade and icon, but the icon doesnt use digital transisterized ignition.

The wave had 100 written on it...it wasnt 125cc.

if you want to save money the click has a version that is 3500 baht cheaper with spoke wheels, and a little cheaper withot the combibrake option.

47k with no freebies and cash, 49.5k with freebies and finance

46k with spokes financed, probably 44kk cash no freebies.

or secondhand carbureted version for 36k...with 7500 kilos...1 year old

click is the best buy when considering refinement, the wave is like a tractor.
