So I made a deal on a used truck yesterday.

2008 Toyota Hilux

This is my first used car purchase in Thailand so I need some expert (or expat) advice.

Supposed to be a couple of years on the warranty. Is this really transferable and how it that done?

Has 1st class insurance until 2010. Same question. Normally transferable? How is it done?

Title or Pink Slip as we call it in the States. The car is currently financed. I am paying cash. Who should be holding the title doc? Current owner or finance company?

What is the deal on registration or Tax sticker I think they call it? Don't you need a sticker on the window to show you paid the registration fee?

What else should I be aware of with this transaction?

Thanks

Warranty - should be transferable

Insurance - Will be transferable...bear in mind in Thailand with car insurance...its the vehicle thats insured not the driver...strange but true

The title will be held by the finance company, so be careful with that one as if you pay the current owner the cash may not get handed over to the finance company, you drive away thinking you own the car and a few months later the finance company repos the car for non-payment....common scam..not just in Thailand, so personally I would be taking a trip to the finance company with the current owner, just to make sure the cash is handed over or make arrangements to pay the finance company direct..

Tax sticker..yes you need one...once change of ownership has occured you will get a letter notifying you (in Thai) that it needs paying

On the warranty........Do I need to contact Toyota or is the transfer automatic regardless of current owner?

On the Insurance.........Is there no minimum liability coverage required?

On the Title............Good point. I should pay the finance company direct and anything left to the present owner.

On the Tax Sticker............I assume the present on is good for some period of time. But I will check that.

Thanks
