Deadly blast at Philippines factory

An explosion at a factory in the Philippines has left at least 12 workers dead and injured several others.

The incident occurred late on Tuesday night at a packaging factory in the township of Santa Maria, about 54km north of Manila.

Police said the factory's steam boiler had exploded, sending debris shooting across a wide area and igniting a brief fire.

Rescue workers said at least one person remained missing after the accident.
