Where is the best place to get a hearing test in Chiang Mai,and does anyone know what the average cost is for a hearing aid in chiang mai.

Hearing test and quotes are available at the Siemens hearing aid shop at Pantip Plaza on ChangKlan Rd. It's been a few years since I went there on my doctor's recommendation, so can't guarantee they are still there or what current prices are. They often run 2 for 1 promotions for a month at a time. High tech hearing aids, computer adjusted to your specific deficiencies are not cheap, comparable to US prices.

Hearing aids, & hearing evaluations are also available across the hall from Siemens at the Pantip Plaza.

Prices for heairng aids are around 50% less than what you would find in the US for the same level of technology. Prices for testing is about 90% less than what you would find in the states.

At that particular location, the only American trained Doctorate level audiologist in Thailand, can be made available via apointment. If you would like to talk to him for some helpful advice, just go and speak with the staff at the office and they will connect you with him.

Cheers

Sawasdee Bee Mai, Khun Patriciachas,

I can add my thoughts to the recent comment by Dakkar.

I had a good experience at the shop in Pornthip Plaza here directly across from the Siemens shop : I was walking by there one day when I looked in and saw a man who appeared to be a youngish Farang. I walked in and asked the receptionist if I could talk with him briefly.

He was a very personable American, named Dr. John, and, even after I explained to him I was in no position to buy any type of hearing aid currently, he offered me a very thorough and complete hearing exam, and seemed very knowledgeable in talking to me about the possible impact of the chemotherapy I had been through on my hearing (tinnitus). No sales pressure at all. He has a Ph.D. in Audiology, an uncommon qualification in Thailand, I believe.

If I had the money, I'd definitely go to him to get fitted with a custom hearing aid.
